@SmotheryVase665 I have just come across an anomaly and I was hoping you could do a sanity check for me please. My wife and I are planning to take the ferry from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert come spring next year. I decided to fly the ferry route to see what it looks like. The first leg I flew was from Port Hardy (CAW5) to Ocean Falls (CAH2) via Bella Bella. The start of the flight was fine but when I wanted to land at Rivers Inlet I found the water runway to be at almost 1000ft! I mean, I have heard of ocean levels rising due to global warming but this is a bit extreme! ![]()
This reminded me that I flew from Port McNeil (CAM8) yesterday and upon deprature there, my Beaver’s altimeter was showing around 260ft. I reset the QNH, I changed between live and preset weather, fiddled and faffed but nada: on the water the altimeter staunchly maintained I was at 260ft. I assumed there was some glitch in the matrix at that time but when I saw the 1,000ft glitch today I decided I would have to take a look.
While the runway altitude isn’t immediately apparent in the sim, I typically use LittleNavMap to get that info. And lo and behold, when I checked these airports, it showed the runways in the water as they should be, but water airport symbol is on dry land adjacent to the runway. And the airport altitude in LNM showed the numbers I saw above!
So I did a quick check of some of the airports you showed in this thread plus some others that I used over the past couple of days. The following is a sample of what I found:
Nanaimo Harbor (CAC8): 126ft
Powell Lake Seaplane Base (CAQ8): 279ft
Port McNeill Seaplane Base (CAM8): 264ft
Rivers Inlet Seaplane Base (CAU8): 249ft
Ocean Falls Seaplane Base (CAH2): 988ft
Hartley Bay Seaplane Base (CAY4): OK
Kitkatla Seaplane Base (CAP7): OK
Prince Rupert - Seal Cove Seaplane Base (CZSW): OK
Kinolith Seaplane Base (CBA3): 76ft
Port Hardy CAW5 OK
I tried spawning on the water runways at a few of these airports and the altitude displayed in the cockpit matched the above numbers. And if you look for it specifically in drone mode, you can actually SEE how the surface of the water bulges up over several miles.
To me this appears to be a logic error at several water runways. If that is the case it is likely that this could be a lot more widespread than the BC coast. But just to make sure I am not losing my mind I would appreciate it if you could check these out please. The ones with the big discrepancies are obviously the most… interesting!
Thanks!
