Love this! I used to use the Return to Misty Moorings add on for floatplane bases but these look really nice. Am I right in assuming that the MamuDesign Marinas add on makes a significant difference to the stock floatplane bases you show here? I have done some floatplane flying in the area but I cannot recall seeing anything looking this good where I flew.

Yes, I believe the majority - if not all - the docks, piers & breakwaters are Mamu’s. I’ve not owned this product for long but it has made a huge improvement to coastal & shoreline VFR flying word-wide.

Both BijanStudio Seasons Enhanced 2024 and MamuDesign Marinas are from the MS Store. I’ve had no issues with streaming them, so installation takes about 5 seconds once purchased.

I loved flying up this coast in FSX - nearly all the bases had either free or paid versions available. I’d love to see a seaplane base bundle in 2024 - but the only seaplane bases in 2024 that I see in the marketplace are the two included in the “Seattle Landmarks” package by Drzewiecki Design.

The nice thing about these flights is that they are all only between 1 - 1.5 hrs long between bases, which works well if you have limited time to fly.

Your post has inspired me to get MamuDesign Marinas and follow the route that you flew. Really enjoyed it! Some screenshots taken at CAU8 Rivers Inlet. Coincidentally not a spot with a marina but I still thought it looked good.

I have done a fair bit of sailing here so it means a lot to me. And BTW, I enjoy the Beaver but the canoe is annoying. I lived in Richmond right by the YVR seaplane terminal so I have seen hundreds of Beavers coming and going. And I have NEVER seen one there or at the Vancouver Coal Harbour terminal, at the more remote seaplane terminals on Vancouver Island, the Sunshine coast or around Seattle. Would be good if it could be made removable.

@SmotheryVase665 I have just come across an anomaly and I was hoping you could do a sanity check for me please. My wife and I are planning to take the ferry from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert come spring next year. I decided to fly the ferry route to see what it looks like. The first leg I flew was from Port Hardy (CAW5) to Ocean Falls (CAH2) via Bella Bella. The start of the flight was fine but when I wanted to land at Rivers Inlet I found the water runway to be at almost 1000ft! I mean, I have heard of ocean levels rising due to global warming but this is a bit extreme!

This reminded me that I flew from Port McNeil (CAM8) yesterday and upon deprature there, my Beaver’s altimeter was showing around 260ft. I reset the QNH, I changed between live and preset weather, fiddled and faffed but nada: on the water the altimeter staunchly maintained I was at 260ft. I assumed there was some glitch in the matrix at that time but when I saw the 1,000ft glitch today I decided I would have to take a look.

While the runway altitude isn’t immediately apparent in the sim, I typically use LittleNavMap to get that info. And lo and behold, when I checked these airports, it showed the runways in the water as they should be, but water airport symbol is on dry land adjacent to the runway. And the airport altitude in LNM showed the numbers I saw above!

So I did a quick check of some of the airports you showed in this thread plus some others that I used over the past couple of days. The following is a sample of what I found:

Nanaimo Harbor (CAC8): 126ft
Powell Lake Seaplane Base (CAQ8): 279ft
Port McNeill Seaplane Base (CAM8): 264ft
Rivers Inlet Seaplane Base (CAU8): 249ft
Ocean Falls Seaplane Base (CAH2): 988ft
Hartley Bay Seaplane Base (CAY4): OK
Kitkatla Seaplane Base (CAP7): OK
Prince Rupert - Seal Cove Seaplane Base (CZSW): OK
Kinolith Seaplane Base (CBA3): 76ft
Port Hardy CAW5 OK

I tried spawning on the water runways at a few of these airports and the altitude displayed in the cockpit matched the above numbers. And if you look for it specifically in drone mode, you can actually SEE how the surface of the water bulges up over several miles.

To me this appears to be a logic error at several water runways. If that is the case it is likely that this could be a lot more widespread than the BC coast. But just to make sure I am not losing my mind I would appreciate it if you could check these out please. The ones with the big discrepancies are obviously the most… interesting!

Thanks!

@SlabsFly
I’ll try to get to this sometime this weekend.

Thanks, appreciate it! I did not want to add it to the airports issue thread without having confirmation by someone else.

Yes - I suspect this is because the location is pulled from Bing and is the location of the land terminal, not the runway, though these (the symbols) can still be inland by 100’s of feet from the shore.

You are correct. I spawned the C172 (Amphibious!) at CAM8. In cockpit, I see 320ft:

LittleNavMap shows 270ft:

I’ve not tried the other airports you mentioned, but see no reason not to see the same. There are a number of existing bug topics about incorrect water elevation in Canada, e.g.:

but you could add the airports you’ve listed to the MSFS 2024 Airport / Helipad Issue Tracker if they have not already been reported there.

Thanks very much for the confirmation! Will look to add as needed.
