Departure and arrival locations, whether they are large international airports or small remote helipads, play a huge role in the flight sim experience. Issues at these locations such as terrain anomalies, inaccurate, outdated, or missing features can ruin the immersion of a flight. The purpose of this thread is to identify issues with default locations in MSFS2024 so that MS/Asobo, one of their partners, or World Hub contributors can address them for all to benefit.

To help manage this thread, please limit posts to only report issues with stock/default locations using the format below so they may be quickly appended to the log.

Identifier Name Category Description
  • Identifier - ICAO designation being the primary or IATA/FAA designation secondary if an ICAO designation doesn’t exist. Leave blank if none are available.
  • Name – Location’s name per official website, aeronautical chart, or publicly available government source
  • Category – List one per entry (General, Missing Airport/Helipad, Navdata, Runway, Taxiway, or Grounds and Facilities) See below for a breakdown for each category.
  • Description – Description of the issue. Also indicate if the location reported is a handcrafted version from Deluxe or Premium Deluxe.

Below is a description of what is being checked, broken down by the categories listed above. If multiple issues are present for the same location across multiple categories, they will be split out into separate entries per category.

General

  • Name – Correct per location’s official website, aeronautical chart, or publicly available government source.
  • Identifier - Correct per location’s official website, aeronautical chart, or publicly available government source, with the ICAO designation being the primary or IATA/FAA designation secondary if an ICAO designation doesn’t exist.

Missing Airport/Helipad

The real-world airport/helipad has been operational prior to 2024 but is physically not present in the sim. I believe the satellite imagery Microsoft / Asobo is using is from 2023 and earlier therefore any airports with operations starting in 2024 will most likely be missing from the sim. For items like this, add a comment in the description identifying these as new this year. Airports still under construction will be excluded.

Closed

The real-world airport/helipad has been closed and no longer conducts flight operations.

Navdata

  • All published IAP are present if applicable
  • All airport communication, navigation frequencies, and navaids are present and accurate

Runway / Helipad

  • All are present
  • Runway length, width, heading, and elevation is accurate per current charts
  • Lighting – correct per charts
  • Composition - correct
  • Markings - correct
  • Runway/helipad Designations – correct
  • Runways/helipads are free and clear of any hazards (terrain anomalies or objects impeding flight operations)
  • Runway thresholds, overruns, and blast pads if present are placed correctly

Taxiway

  • All are present
  • Designations are correct
  • Sign positions correct
  • Taxiways are free and clear of any hazards (terrain anomalies or objects impeding flight operations)
  • Taxiway lights are present, and placement is correct
  • Surface type and color correct
  • Taxiway markings are present and accurate for markings available for default airports in the sim.

Grounds and Facilities

  • Aprons and deice pads are all present and void of any anomalous terrain features such as “terrain cracks”, “terrain spikes”, sinkholes, or uneven terrain causing aircraft to crash while taxing.
  • Parking spots / gates are all present, have the correct designation, and are correctly positioned per charts and/or Bing satellite imagery
  • Windsock positions are accurate if depicted on aeronautical charts
  • Control Tower Position – correct per charts
  • Control Tower Size – accurate for size of airport
  • Airport terminal building/s are present and accurate in layout and size
  • Hangars and other airport buildings are present and accurately sized
  • Jet bridges are correctly placed where present.
  • If not present in the real world, no objects affecting flight operations (e.g. trees, windmills, buildings, powerlines, etc.) are present around the perimeter of the location impeding flight operations
  • Special terrain correctly modeled (location is on a hill, platform, or other special terrain features such as TNCS, VNLK, WX53, LPMA)
  • Tree/vegetation at the location is accurate (e.g. are huge trees surrounding the runway when there should only be small bushes)
  • Civilian vehicle traffic, if present, doesn’t cross aircraft movement areas
  • Terminals and hangars have lighting
  • Apron ground markings are present and accurate for markings available for default airports in the sim.
  • Apron surface type and color is accurate
  • Beacon light correctly placed and sized
  • Ground Service vehicle roads and markings are present and accurate

67L Mesquite International Airport Runway/Helipad Major elevation error. The threshold of Runway 2 is over 100’ higher than it should be and runway 20 is over 100’ lower than it should be (probably a few hundred feet). The entire airport looks is as if it has been tilted, with the southwest portion on a giant hill and the northeast portion sunken into the surrounding terrain. Makes ops impossible. It should actually be an average 2% slope up to the northeast. All 12/10/2024

Buildings keep appearing in spawn areas in parking spots at airports, causing the plane to crash and having to restart. If crash is disabled, the plane remains stuck in the building.

  1. Description of the issue:
    I was expecting that the new sim would have the updated airports in my area, Philippines. but unfortunately its still not updated. Panglao Bohol Int’l Airport is still not there. and the ICAO RPSP which is the ICAO of Panglao Bohol is being used by another airport which is Camp Capinpin Airfield in the sim which should be RPLM in real life.
    Upon looking the online web flight planner (planner.flightsimulator.com), the data is updated there and accurate. then why cant the updated data be placed in the sim? i will be inserting screenshots for proofs
