Well, it isn’t an Islander, any more than a 727 is a 737. Related, but different enough to feel it.
Somebody asked about the missing gauge in the Trislander panel. Looking at old flight manuals, it was likely a radio compass.
I was not familiar with what a radio compass is. Looks like it was an early ADF type device.
This Wikipedia article talks about the technology and history. A neat read!
Ok now that the Concorde and 247D Hype is done can we release now? ![]()
I was actually thinking, that possibly the best effect of the delay (other than getting a finished aircraft) is that the Trislander wont get overshadowed by the big hype of the Concorde. ![]()
Also my hype for the Trislander got even bigger due to the updates by @KJKerr !
Is the Trislander delayed? I had not yet heard of an initial release date.
I am told it is very close. That’s all I can say because we all know how the best made plans of mice and men, and developers, can sometimes inadvertently go astray!
That’s good enough for me. Waiting is difficult, but I am expecting it is going to be worth the wait. Besides, I still gotta figure out how I’m going to get three prop levers for my Honeycomb Bravo!
May be good to wait, people are crazy about Concorde and the Boeing atm.
Having gone from two donks on the Islander to three on the Trislander, I have been idly wondering what aircraft would take that progression to four, whilst keeping the same utility/rough field/agricultural credentials and have finally come up with an answer. What would a Blackbox Blackburn Beverley be like? Answers on a postcard please…
The wait will be worth it for the Trislander and I wish it well. If I get ten percent of the enjoyment that I have had with the Islander, it will be a bargain.
I already checked Blackbox website for express paypal checkout… take my money
I think AvAngel said in her video, that it would be released at the end of the month (march), this sounded pretty official, since she got the aircraft from BBS as prerelease version. So it’s a half baked delay I guess. (I am really not complaining!)
Dash 7 perhaps? there’s one on the way but quite a way off.
Or, erm…
A Beverley has more akin to a hot air balloon to fly, I think - just goes where the wind takes you…
( Also there’s a bunch more twins to do first! Skybus family, Twin Pioneer… oh, and de Havilland Heron - Wikipedia fits, even if the Dove would be a better idea
)
Very nice… it looks more congealed than designed, so fits the bill well. As an aside, I used to know a Beverley navigator who said that they had been overtaken by trains if there was any strong headwinds. Anything that can carry off the vibe of the Islander/Trislander would get my vote - anything that feels like the crew might use a hammer rather than an Ipad, really.
The Skyvan family definitely fit that bill, as does the Twin Pioneer - looks like a bunch of different aircraft all at the same time! looking at it it does look like you could successfully fly it on it’s side, that’s quite a lot of tail…
Don’t think I’ve ever managed to see one, unlike the Dove/Herons. The Heron definitely fits the bill of replacing two underpowered engines with four even more underpowered engines…
Now that you mention it, I remember her saying that too. Thanks. As mentioned above, a slight delay is not a big deal, especially considering all the planes coming out right now.
Hi gang.
A Trislander update from today’s testing. Yes, there will be a delay. It was found today that some sounds are missing from the sound suite (clicking of some switches mainly), and so this will require another revision. Also, with this being a deeper study experience than many aircraft, we discovered a few anomalies in some engine numbers that Graham wants to double check. He really is intent on getting this thing to fly by the book. From my part, I welcome a release delay when such dedication is part of the working rationale. You and I (as end users) will be the winners with that approach.
And a quick note for the Islander pilots out there. I have hundreds of hours flying the Blackbox Islander, and after flying Trislander extensively over the past month, when I jump back into the Islander it looks tiny! They may be from the same “bloodline”, but they are a very different experience from each other… That’s my viewpoint anyway. I love it!
I will create another screenshot preview soon.

All that sounds very encouraging. I’m sure I won’t be the only one who appreciates taking time to get this right, and not meet some arbitrary launch date. ![]()
I will remain on the sidelines watching. Graham knows what he is doing. It will be a successful release.
Understood, and thank you for being the conduit for communication from BBS! I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the folks interested in the Trislander have their hands full learning the Boeing 247D at the moment. ![]()
Personally, I want BBS to be happy with the state of the state of things on release. We are all super excited , but waiting a bit longer isn’t going to hurt us.
