ISSUE DESCRIPTION
Live weather in MSFS 2024 is visually impressive, but there are major bugs that break immersion and realism during flights:
- Sudden weather transitions with no logical buildup (e.g. instant storms or heavy wind with no prior signs).
- Thunder and lightning occur while flying under completely clear skies – no clouds present at all.
- The in-game sky may show a clear atmosphere while the audio plays thunder effects as if a storm is nearby.
- These effects happen mid-cruise, far from any METAR-reported storm activity.
- Live Weather updates seem to override current conditions too abruptly and with no visible meteorological front.
I’ve reviewed weather-related bug threads, and while some mention transition speed, the clear-sky thunder and storm logic seem unreported in full.
FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
- Intermittent but recurring, especially on long flights with Live Weather enabled.
- Affects both IFR and VFR flights.
REPRODUCTION STEPS
- Enable Live Weather.
- Take off on a long-haul or regional flight (e.g. LFPG to LEBL).
- Observe sudden weather shifts and listen for thunder in non-stormy areas.
- Monitor sky conditions vs. audio/atmospheric effects.
