Looking for opinions/experience of buying from Marketplace or the developers such as Aerosoft, PMDG, etc. Why buy from one rather than the other.
Thanks.
I would strongly recommend buying anywhere BUT the marketplace, unless otherwise forced to (such as Carenado products which only sell there).
Items take quite a bit of time to get to the Marketplace after launch (and not all vendors go there either). That said, once they do launch on Marketplace, you must then wait again for any subsequent updates which are available same day from the vendor or other sites.
A reason to buy on marketplace is because you get the item for use on pc, xbox and cloud. Updates, although slower, are all in one convenient location and easy to keep track of.
Hello, I am fresh here so not quite sure of procedures. However I cannot purchase from the Marketplace as the only country/region it seems to cater for is the USA. I am in Nigeria.
I always buy directly from the manufacturer / developer. The only exceptions are Local Legens or Famous Flyers.
Why?
- Faster updates.
- I don’t want to reward Microsoft / Asobo for selling more than questionable projects and / or developers in their ingame store.
in the future you might want to pick up an xbox s or x to have as backup or something to take on vacation. If you bought something from marketplace, like the BAE 146 or PMDG 737 or lots of sceneries they are available to you when you boot up the box and log in with your existing account, I buy both from marketplace Planes and Sceneries, and from external sources like SimMarket for stuff I dont think will come to the xbox like utilities or stuff like the Leonardo MD80 or Fenix A320. Its your own choice depends on your situation. Updates are slower on marketplace, but thats something I accept. The only thing I bought twice was Fly Tampas Vegas, first from the developer then again because I wanted it on my X. Developers are quite happy to eventually release to the inSim marketplace, contrary to what a lot of people think. Often it leads to a new growth in Sales. because of VISABILITY because the various markets can be overwhelming Orbx Inibuilds etc etc. Flightbeam just released their Toulouse Blagnac airbus scenery to the marketplace. i had been waiting for that one for a while…just in time for the Fenix.. just like Boeings Renton appeared just in time for the PMDG…
My first post [be nice] Downloading from Orbx to My Xbox, I have loaded the Orbx Central but it does not give me Xbox as a choice, only windows and L
If you are on an XBOX, the only option you have is Marketplace. You cannot buy from third party directly.
Welcome! Xbox addons are only available through MS Marketplace. This is nice advantage for me as I’m on xbox with many $ invested in addons and they will be available to me when I move to PC, but a huge disadvantage for PC users hoping to use their addons in xbox purchased outside the marketplace. Honestly if my purchases on xbox (including the game itself) didn’t carry over to PC I would never consider moving to PC. For those already on PC who have no interest in xbox it’s a non-issue.
I use the marketplace because I’m not interested in finagling through Simmarket, Orbx, Imaginesim, FSDreamteam, PMDG, Aerosoft, etc. installers every time there’s a sim update.
I want a one-stop-shop for all my updates and I want it to be integrated in the program. I don’t want to sort and organize zip files and .exe’s all the time.
I buy from the marketplace. What I like about that is whatever I purchase goes directly into my content folder. I’m assuming that if I bought elsewhere, I would have to put whatever I purchased into my community folder. Then, when MS sent out an upgrade version to FS2020, I’d have to temporarily move those items out of my community folder into another place. Just seems like a lot of work.
Thanks guys. Very helpful.
