That does not match up to my experience. It isn’t the BEST, but I certainly think it is not as you described. Maybe you have some other issues interfering?
It’s a pretty fun plane I think. The flaps (drag) is very strong and it can indeed pull some moves, but as an attacking and “aggressively flown” Bush plane it’s pretty fun!
When I’m flying I don’t really like to jump into random planes and have a go. I like to learn a plane and fly it a lot. I like to get really good at all of its details, systems, handling, etc, and feel like if I was flying it in real life I’d be doing it well. I guess this would be a good trait if I could actually afford to fly in real life!
Therefore I don’t buy a lot of planes, I do research them carefully and only buy highly rated ones that have good realism and depth. The only ones I regret are the ones I’ve bought but not flown, or only used a couple of times. I’m sure they are great aircraft but I don’t have time to dedicate to learning them.
My main regret then is simply having insufficient free time for pretend flying. Maybe when I retire I’ll get there, but that’s a few iterations of MSFS away at the rate I’m going!
hello my name is FusionHorse and I have a problem…
Aren’t we all here because we are aviation enthusiasts and more or less compulsive virtual aircraft owners? Isn’t one of the key draws for us the ability to ‘own’ all of our favorite specific aircraft and or aircraft types and fly them whenever we have the time?
Yes it would be great if the essential methodology were to give potential buyers a three day trial (free or for a small fee) with the option to delete - or purchase for the balance of the cost of the product. But that isn’t where we live. And even if it was I believe most of us would buy what we have in ourt minds as ‘must haves’ anyway - figuring that if it doesn’t work out it still costs less than one restaurant dinner.
I also agree that the OP seems more vexed about the amount of time he can find to use what he has acquired, than about the quality of what he has bought - lemons aside (and there are lemons here like anywhere else).
Also - I often lately wish there was a stiff fee for complaints. Something like $100 a pop to go into a general fund for the development of 3rd party aircraft. This way at least it would all have some benefit to both the developers and the community.
I also regret the ATR. I have been using it for 2 days. I can’t see the numbers in the gauges they are way too small. It takes the enjoyment out of flying it. I’m not sure if the gauges are suppose to pop out and enlarge so I can see things. But they don’t. I tried a flight from KDEN to KASE using a flight plan from Simbrief. The flight went well until the airplane descended into the mountains. But again my main problem is that I can not see the numbers on the gauges. I also could never find the way to set the transponder and TCAS. I did watch videos but not once did I see where the transponder and TCAS settings were. I hoped the ATR would be better. But it’s not.
People set their own expectations. too often a plane comes out, hype gets self generated by the community and when they fall short for whatever reason (delays, lack of features, bugs etc), an equal amount of outrage is displayed.
Some people believe in “As real as it gets” with all their heart. When they expects $100 worth of work in a $20 plane, I would anticipate that person to say “this plane isn’t that good.”
I think that’s what happens when a market becomes saturated.
I couldn’t get the Maule down the runway in even the mildest crosswind what so ever with out it going full spastic on me and losing all directional control (granted, this was pre SU15 and all aircraft had wishy-washy ground handling). In the air it just handled bizarre to me. It seemed to have absolutely no forward inertia through the air and just constantly wandered around. I also remember it behaving very strangely in turns in terms of yaw charactaristics. I was heavily involved in developing the ‘FSNordic’ Maule for FS2004 and of course flew the FSX Maule and those both behave as you’d expect. This one flies just awful in my opinion - using the same control sensitivities as everything else I fly. Just my opinion and experience but I would strongly caution anyone before they buy it.
Heh bought it last night. Screenshots don’t do it justice, it’s shockingly bad. Funny because the BN2 is ‘bad’ in a strange way that makes it probably the most comprehensive cockpit view while still holding a true pilot’s head position and it remains a top 10 for me for a long long time. I didn’t realize the shorts was roblox bad. I’m burning a ticket on it.
Doesn’t help that I bought the Tecnam 2012 last night too Only did a few circuits for about an hour but interior ‘environmental’ polish is in TBM930 SR22T Kodiak and FSR500 land, which makes a big deal with a big 55". She purdy.
The MU is so bad I want to find a way to remove it from my uninstalled list so I don’t see it there a couple times a year.
I have to concur. Although I didn’t notice anything odd with the flight model of the PESIM Maule (having never flown one in real life,) after several cross-country flights I just couldn’t get over the bad cockpit–low res graphics, hidden light switches, and bad seat height and positioning for VR pilots. Since those things are priorities for me, I have put the Maule on the shelf.
I feel bad about this because the Maule M-7 (a well-modeled one) would fill a definite niche for me.
I really regret the Bredock 737 max. I’m embarrassed to say I bought it but at the time, there were no other 737s available.
The ATR was a waste of money. Thought I would like a turbo prop but the cockpit doesn’t seem laid out good. Gauges are a hard to see makes it hard to fly.
PMDG 737-600. I dislike the developer and their attitude and business practices. The plane flies good but if I knew I was only going to be able to fly 12 or so liveries on Xbox I would have never have bought it. The fact that they charge $4.99 for each of their two livery sets peeved me off even more. Oh and the lies. There are no liveries I want to fly. I have it but rarely fly it. I’ll never give them another cent of my money.
The only ones I don’t regret are LVFRs Airbuses. I’m an Airbus guy and while they’re planes aren’t perfect, I felt they give me my money’s worth.
I’m kind of surprised to see how many people don’t like the ATR. After a few patches it’s really pretty decent. It’s just a little clunky to interact with in the sim and it’s a bit dull to operate. I have it, I think it flies pretty good and I’ve not had any show stopping bugs. I can’t really find too much fault with it except that it just doesn’t inspire me. I don’t look forward to getting home after work and firing it up. I don’t regret getting it though.
Bought a few dogs myself…lol. Hopefully SWS fixes the PC-12. Biggest regret are great planes I just don’t have the imagination to support. They will be ready once I work on that.
My #1 would probably be the HPG hot air balloon. It’s well made, but a novelty that doesn’t have a ton of replayability. I half bought it just to support HPG, because I love their choppers.
Hot on its heels is the Laborie Airbus A400. It wasn’t terrible - it’s perfectly flyable as is - but it had so much potential. Roland seems to have moved on to other things, so I don’t think we’ll ever see the potential realized. (Especially with the Atlas being a MS24 launch aircraft.)
I don’t think any of the (many) planes I bought are bad per se, but there are many that I just don’t bother flying much. Like the Wilga - it’s fantastic work by GF, and is great value for the price (and I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone who was interested in that type of plane), but I just don’t do a ton of low and slow bush flying, so it doesn’t come out much. Ditto the AA Tiger Moth - beautifully done, but I rarely want to putter around at 40 knots. I don’t regret buying those planes - I regret that I don’t use them much.
I don’t mind the ATR or the Shorts (either of them) at all, TBH!
You really should take time to fly the Lear if you own it. James Bond styling, a rocket to fly - still holds real life climb records, and has evolved tremendously since it came out. One of my favorites.
Funny, I feel the opposite. I’m in love with the SWS PC-12 and totally regret the Vision Jet. Everyone spoke so highly of it and it didn’t knock my socks off. It flies nice, good visual model. Just not that immersive. Save your money and fly the TBM. The performance and avionics are very similar. Thinking I should have spent the money on the Hondajet
The take home a lot of the time is a fantastic flight model does not change an aircraft into something else.
I like both the Comanche and the Sting S4 mentioned in the first post and have flown a Sting S4 regularly and flown Pipers (though not a Comanche) and both MSFS addons seem pretty good compared to the real thing BUT they are still a Comanche prop single and an ultralight and you need to enjoy flying that sort of thing.
Planes I’ve purchased that I like:
PMDG 737/739
PMDG 77W
SWS PC12 (So underrated]
Carenado 182RG
Flysimware 414
My so/so list:
ATR
Carenado 207 (I’d rather be in the 182RG)
CRJ700/900/1000 - I seems too simple, though it’s not a bad plane.
SWS Kodiak
Buyer’s remorse category:
Vision Jet - It just doesn’t do it for me. If it were $10/$15 and it wasn’t hyped up like it is, maybe I’d like it more. Like I said in a reply, It doesn’t offer much in comparison to the TBM.
Disonorable mention on freeware:
Inibuilds A310/A320N - I really like the models, the optimization is terrible. I’d love to fly these more, kinda unflyable with their FPS issues. However, I just installed a 5700X3D. Time to give it another shot with that CPU.
Any other plane and it would have been parked up for good…
It’s because it’s the only one of its type in the sim “prop tube liner…” and it’s there but not there if you know what I mean…
It’s like getting a brand new fully functional TV but finding a random fault, like the volume button on the remote that works… Sometimes, as you try dialing down the volume for it to go up loud… Or a scratch across the screen that’s just noticeable for it to be annoying…
What I’m getting at is, it’s not a CTD/Freeze fault..
It’s that annoying v-fp issue that won’t go away, it’s the randomness of turnarounds and that the plane doesn’t “reset” on each landing like any other “same fedality” aircraft in msfs… The vnav is clunky as putting a square in a circle… The plane is flyable and functional… To a point… But man… It’s also like buying the only available TV that’s there but not quite finished but you really need it at the same time so you don’t want to take it back…
It’s randomness that makes is a pain in the… But because it’s the only thing of its type…
You find yourself in this weird relationship where you hate flying it, it frustrates the living hell out of you yet…
You find yourself keep coming back for more…
