If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue: C172 basic (steam gauge)

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load the basic 172 and look at the altimeter baro setting

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?

Everyone outside the US will be happy with the current state but it might not be overly realistic. I’d assume you are correct as this is a US based manufacturer. But it’s sold everywhere so the altimeter probably should display both. Looks like they just put in the wrong gauge.

And ATC reads the pressure in inches and unfortunately I cannot yet do the conversion in my head. Rather than keeping a calculator handy, I’ve just been pressing B to reset the baro (and I had to remap that because they changed B to “extend flaps” for some reason ).

The default key is now comma

This altimeter is from United Instruments and does come in flavors of inHg, mb and both. I think the both option would be best.

I’m sure there’s a way to change it, buried somewhere in the documentation that we never get.

Naturally… :man_shrugging:t3:

Flew this for the first time last night. Found out that the altimeter not only shows HPa in the Kollsman window, but the scale on the card is backwards. Rotating the altimeter knob (clockwise) increases the indicated altitude as it should, but decreases the pressure displayed in the Kollsman window, and vice-versa. Very broken.

I can confirm. The scale on the card is backwards.

Yes. I have the same issue. Pressure is not displayed in millibars. Also have experienced altitude dispays 0 feet even though airport I’m at is at 460 ft

Same issue… hope it gets bug logged… :no_mouth:

It looks as if they developed the MSFS 2024 C172 “Classic” from a very early version of what was developed for 2020, way before most of the things got fixed for the released, and current 2020 version.

The above seems to be a pattern for a lot of 2024, which has regressed to contain many of the bugs that were fixed in the later 2020 version of the sim.

Version control at it’s worse … or maybe just 2024 started development and split off BEFORE so many of the 2020 issues Were addressed and fixed.

I have all the same issues. It’s really frustrating as US based Private Pilot that these simple functions make the 172 unrealistic and not fun to fly considering the rest of the model is pretty accurate to the real thing.

Same issue here. Hope they fix it. I am also a student pilot in the USA and this ruins my flow.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

The Altimeter in the Cessna 172 [ all versions], has an incorrect calibration tape. [in 1000’s.]. Needs to be in mmHG [for example altitude 29.92 mmHg].
Correct altitude cannot be set, for example when ATIs tells you an airport is at a certain altitude 29.92 for example], it cannot be set in the Altimeter calibration windows.
-Please set it up like it is in FS2020! Why did you even change something that was not broken to begin with ??

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:

C 172

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
yes / yes

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. load a flight in any C172
  2. try calibrating the ground altitude in the altimeter window

Inches of mercury (InHg). Personally I feel it would be best if it showed both mb and InHg to make everyone happy (which this specific altimeter can).

Just took this screenshot in X-Plane 12. It’s an example of what I am talking about…

Why they don’t just do this is beyond me. It’s a completely plausible solution that offers the best of both worlds. Even if it’s not “real-world” kit, hand-waive it by saying it’s an STC specifically for the sim or something. Instant fix.

Hoping to keep this thread alive in the name of getting this fixed.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes I have the same exact issues.
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• First off there is no option for inhg, only millibars which is a regression from MSFS 2020. Secondly, increasing the barometric pressure setting lowers your altitude and decreasing the barometric pressure setting increases altitude which is completely backwards. This seems to be about the most basic part of flying an airplane and I’m absolutely shocked that this hasn’t been addressed or that it even made it into the sim in the first place.

As a US based private pilot working on an instrument rating this makes using the sim to fly approaches much more difficult.

This is completely broken and I seriously hope it gets fixed so I can get back to using MSFS 2024 for practicing.
