ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

I’m not quite sure if this is a “regression” or it’s now more accurate but I’m finding using my pedals to steer the C172 on the ground while taxiing much more challenging: i.e. twitchy. It’s hard to keep it in a straight line.

My initial thought is the changes to MOI are allowing the tail be pushed by the wind all that much more easily. However, I thought I’d post the feedback in case it’s something else like a change to the front wheel physics that are making it more sensitive.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
When every taxiing.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Taxi the aircraft and steer it with the rudder pedal.

I’m referring to the G1000 version.

Hi, I’ve noticed the same behavior. Don’t have the same problem on FS2020. Thanks for bringing it up. Voted

Edit : I’ve done some changes on the sensitivity curve and now it works fine for me. You may try yourself a setting that better suite your feeling.

I haven’t tested yet, but the plane could probably do with having its config tweaked. Updating the maximum steering angle based on speed, for example, which would allow for grosser turns at low speeds, then less responsive as you accelerate to rotation speeds.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion. I’ll have a look at the config soon. I did a lot of config tweaking on C172 FS2020…there was a very long thread about it. At that time the main issue was related to the side-wind and the ground friction..

I’ve just installed the FS2024 last week…with a previous two weeks trial with the gamepass. I’m actually involved with the controls settings that is a real nightmare as many as confirmed in this forum.. Let’s see..At the moment the change I made on the sensitivity curve is acceptable IMO but I need to see how it works with stroger winds.
Cheers

  • Yes. Voted.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

  • Rudder seems overly sensitive, causing me to have to over-correct. I have control-loaded rudder pedals that run on their own software, so when something like this happens, I’m less confident than other people on what’s changed, but given that I’m not the only one who noticed, signs seem to point to a change in the aircraft.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

People experiencing this, is this a new regression to SU3? I ask since i feel like the rudder is very stable in SU2, and has been for the entire of 2024s release for the 172.

I ended up tweaking my rudder pedal response curve to a bit more gentle near the centre, and applied this to all planes rather than spend the time to tweak each, and every one.

Yes; it started with SU3.

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

Glad this is being investigated! I just found this thread when I went to report the issue. Rudder is very sensitive compared to pre SU3.

Have also experienced much shorter takeoff distance, so I’ll look for a thread on that topic. Seems like the C172 G1000 wants to fly almost as soon as the brakes are released and full power is reached. Is that normal? It wasn’t that way for me before.
