I’ve been playing around with the Cessna 172 steam gauge version this week and I wonder if someone could help me with the autopilot and approaches.
In-game ATC gave me an ILS approach and I set it up in the G530. It wasn’t an RNAV approach, just a plain old ILS in the approaches selection.
As I entered final approach I hit the Approach button on the autopilot. And to my surprise it flew the glideslope. I hadn’t put the ILS frequency in. Nor had I hit the CDI button to change to Loc. The G530 remained in GPS mode yet flew the approach.
So what’s going on here?
Do you have the modded 530 installed? If so I believe it auto switches the NAV frequency either before or after the FAF.
I think that is the way the WT G1000 NXi works as well, auto switching from GPS to VOR1/2.
Thanks for the reply.
No, no mods. This is on Xbox where no mods are possible.
I’m aware of the behaviour on the G1000. No auto switching occurred. It remained on GPS the whole way.
Could you say which approach you used please?
Doncaster/Sheffield EGCN ILS 020
I think this is somewhat correct behavior. If you have an approach loaded into 530 and you hit the APR button, if you are within a certain number of degrees of the approach course and within a certain intercept angle, it should intercept and fly the LOC course and GS (if you intercept the GS from below). It is odd that it would stay in GPS mode and not switch to LOC.
I have more experience with the G1000 but I think the behaviors are similar.
Stock 530 has issues of course, so that may have a great deal to do with it.
