Brief description of the issue:

Unable to create a user waypoint using the Garmin 530 WPT - USR page

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

With aircraft set to Cessna 172 (with Garmin 530). have aircraft running to prevent battery drain. Allow Garmin to boot up. Press enter twice to complete the bootup. Select FPL. Clear the flight plan, if any. Turn right-side-outer-button until WPT (waypoint) pages are selected. Turn right-side-INNER-button until the final WPT page is selected (USR). Push Right-side-button to get a cursor (cursor appears in the top field. Click on the keyboard icon, and type in a non-existing name for the waypoint, such as “JUNKU”. Press ENT. Nothing happens; it is supposed to accept the name, put current location into the Lat and long fields, and put up a “Create?” confirmation word. It DOESN’T. Pressing ENT does nothing. So press the right-side-button to regain the full cursor. Now turn the right-side-OUTER-button to change fields. Try to move cursor past the REF WPT … RAD … DIST fields and onto the Lat and Long fields. You can’t. Cursor does not go past the final RAD field.
So now try to create a user waypoint by reference. Rotate the right-OUTER-button to move the cursor to the upper REF WPT field. Type in YBR. It changes the “JUNKU” waypoint name that I selected, back to YBR. It should not do that. Go back up and change the waypoint name back to “JUNKU”. Now bring the cursor down to the REF WPT and RAD Field. REF WPT is still YBR. Go to RAD. using the right-side wheels, enter in 220. Press ENT. The field multiplies to 2200. It should not do that. Move the cursor to the DIST field. Use the right side wheels to enter 020.0. Press ENT. it multiplies to 200??? It should not do that. See screen capture.
No matter what you try, it is impossible to create a user waypoint.

Know limitation …
As of yet, the WT GNS530 does not support User Waypoints .

(If I a reading the WT Discord correctly)

User waypoints are not implemented at this time

It will of course allow them via imported flight plan from the map screen.

I wish it could do what the PMS 530 could do, pull the plans in from local disk, replicating a flash drive.

The issue with Flight Plans generated with the world map, is that if you enter a User Waypoint, that waypoint does not seem to be formatted correctly wrt the user waypoint ( Missing “dummy” ICAO code), and therefore (if navigraph) is installed), those user Waypoints all appear at the North Pole.

One work around is to generate, or pass the World Map FP through the current version of LNM, which will put those Dummy ICAO tags into the user Waypoints sections.

Yes, I use LNM for that on most group flights actually. It tends to do a good job of tidying things up.

Now, all we need is for Asobo to “Tidy up” the world map

Or at minimum, document in teh SDK, the full, correct formatting of ,fpl files.

Especially the ICAO tags requirement, as well as the Altitude tags.

Maybe once that is sorted, they will be able to restore the recently removed option, to temporary ESC from the current flight, and then be able to SAVE the current FP, which may, or may not, have been updated by the GPS during the flight.

(Ideally, one should be able to save the current FP at ANY time you are flying, without having to stop flying and enter the UI menu system to do the Save or load of a FlightPlan’

NOT being able to save a FP, modified during flight by the GPS, is a major limitation, and RW unrealistic.
