I would like to be able to raise or lower the horizon.
Spacebar helps a little bit but is not exactly enough for what is needed.
As I understand this was possible in X-Plane with Q and Ctrl+Q (but I can’t confirm as I’ve never played X-Plane)
The reason I am asking for this feature is because I have a Home-Cockpit with a 65" TV.
I can’t lower the TV anymore because the Frame of the Cockpit is blocking the movement.
This in turn causes me to constantly lightly look up to match the Horizon and I’m starting to get neck pain. I know this sounds like a personal problem but this feature was part of X-plane and used by many so I’d like to think other people also want this feature. I couldn’t find it yet on the wishlist.
I guess this is what people think what it should do in their opinion
But what it really does is that it locks the dashboard to the users set position and when set to on afterwards it will not let you move this by mouse. But you will be able to move it with forr example with an xbox controller.
What you want to do if i understand it right is tilt horizon down, so horizon would be lower on your screen but cockpit is maintain its height the same as it is now.
I have looked through camera files but could not find this so far nor in camera overall as well in airplane camera settings
Home cockpit mode mentions explicitly “stops the cockpit from rendering”. And It’s annoying that I can’t use freelook anymore. But that aside.
Tilting the Horizon creates the impression that you’re looking up and thats not what I’m after. I want to move the horizon up and down so that it no longer statically sits at the center of the monitor.
The view frustum for MSFS is set so that, when level, the horizon is positioned vertically at the mid-point of the window (usually the screen, when you’re full-screen).
In some sims (P3D for sure, and presumably X-Plane) you can change the view frustum itself to be asymmetric. This has the effect of moving the natural horizon line down or up the screen, depending on how you set up the frustum. In MSFS, you can’t do this.
My solution - given that I don’t need the virtual cockpit displayed on my main display at all, since I have additional monitors, popped-out instruments, and Air Manager panels - was to tilt the camera back (basically shift + up/down cursor keys will do this) until the horizon line was where I wanted it, in line with my eyepoint. However, this does distort the view, as you noted. I accommodated for this by tilting the screen itself down to the same angle, with the top nearer me than the bottom, which would offset the distortion.
That’s the best solution I could come up with at the time; now I’ve re-built things so I have a large TV mounted behind the console such that my eyeline is at the mid-point of the screen, because frankly it’s easier. Maybe one day, if MSFS evolves to have more advanced view support, we will be able to do this natively.
Moving the view frustum is exactly what I’m looking for! This will also help (when we also have separate camera views (multi-screen support)) to align the individual monitors.
I tried tilting the camera up but that really distorts my viewpoint, also tried to put the main monitor at an angle but my neck still hurts.
I will just have to wait in the hope that this feature will be implemented in the future. In the meanwhile I’m going to see If I can move some things around to lower the screen Even If that means moving it back further from the dashboard.
