I have the VR render scaling set to 80 in MSFS and it’s a pretty good experience. Just to see what the difference was I moved the render scaling up to 150 and was totally amazed at the visual quality. Everything was so much sharper and more realistic. Obviously, the framerates were totally unusable but just the visuals were fantastic as I slowly looked around.
My question is, upgrading to a 3090 and its 24GB GDDR6X, would I be able to move that slider up more towards 120-130 and be able to fly with 30fps or am I just dreaming? None of my settings are on Ultra so quite happy to leave it that way.
I can’t really afford any of the 4090 series, plus would have to change the case.
Yes you probably can. I have a similar setup with 5600x and rtx 3090ti and my scaling is at %120 with a very smooth operation. Getting around 30-35fps, everything is at ultra but not the LODs. I also upgraded from an RTX2070, and it’s a day and night experience.
I believe you can. With a 5900x/3090 I was able to use 100 ingame/100 openXR with no issues. Considering your CPU is better, I guess you won’t have any issues, too. Maybe you can aim for a 3090ti (also used)?
With DLSS Performance (or Balanced) I guess you can go to 100 ingame/130 openXR.
aim for the 4090, my 3090 was at 80/90% with other settings maxed out, now im at 200% oxr, putting a resolution of approx 4400x4400, dlss quality. and 40/60 fps everywhere, its mind bogging
Thanks for the replies and great to hear that the jump up in cards would make a difference. I think I’d be happy with what the 3090ti has to offer for my needs so will concentrate on gettin one. I still can’t believe how good it looked when raising the render scaling and always thought it was the headset that lacked the resolution and clarity.
Not really interested in the 4090 series at this stage although I’m sure the graphics will just get better and better.
I don’t understand when I read comments like this why I can’t get the same type of performance from a 5600X and 3090. Setting a bunch of stuff to Ultra kills my frames.
Don’t know if you have recently looked at the RTX 3090 series of cards pricing, but they are almost as much as the RTX 4090 “normal” price…$1599…I know you cannot get one right now for this price, however once the melting issue is ironed out and the supply comes back it will settle into a more reasonable price…as for the size…well that’s another matter…HAHA
I have the following specs and I get 29-35 FPS in my area Seattle/Puget Sound with everything turned up except grass & bushes turned off…and bloom turned off…I use openxr toolkit set to my headsets specs of 3840x2160 and motion reprojection turned on in experimental…PIMAX 8KX is the headset.
My system specs (no over clocking on anything)
Intel i9-11900KF 3.5ghz
Windows 11 22H2 64-bit
32gb RAM 3200mhz Ripjaws
RTX 3090 (non Ti) 24gb RAM
Samsung 970 EVO SSD
motherboard ASUS Z590-A
Nvidia control panel (stock except for FPS lock at 35 and power at Prefer maximum Performance)
OXRTK set to 3840x2160 and frame throttling at 35 and Motion Reprojection is OFF in the experimental option
MSFS2020 set to DLSS Quality
PIMAX 8KX normal field of view and Optical 6m cable Dport connection
I do use Nvidia GeForce Experience and Game recording in Windows 11 ON.
HAGS is set to OFF and BIOS Hyperthreading is set OFF
Around the city of Seattle it drops to about 29 FPS (still flyable)
Thanks for the info Controll21.
Yes, I was looking online yesterday at the 3090 cards here in Australia and currently a bit of a pricing joke. At least I know what my options are and that the Reverb G2 is well worth hanging on to. Still enjoying VR flying with my current specs so I’ll give it 4-6 months and see how the graphics card market is and what I can purchase.
I love the 8KX and using it in games other than MSFS2020 is great also…I would love a new PIMAX 12K eventually and the new RTX 4090 once the bugs are ironed out about the connectors melting. My setup runs very well around 25-30 FPS in most areas I fly in…there is still just a bit of blurriness that I wish I could get rid of, but will have to wait for better hardware in the next year or two…and I hate scalpers of the video cards (even though it kept me from buying a 4090 and now the news about problems is out) it’s a blessing in disguise I guess.
