Can anyone recommend a good throttle?

I’m looking for something better build quality than the Saitek/Logitech throttle quadrant suited more towards GA aircraft. I’ve currently got the Thrusmaster TCA quadrant, TCA sidestick and the Honeycomb yoke. The TCA throttle is excellent for the A320 but doesn’t feel as realistic when flying GA aircraft.

I’ve seen the Virtual Fly TQ3 and it looks very good quality but the price tag is VERY expensive and I cannot justify spending €546 just on a throttle quadrant.

The Honeycomb Bravo throttle quadrant looks very good and I’m sure it will complement the yoke perfectly but the size of this thing look massive. My desk isn’t that big so I’m looking more towards the size of the Virtual Fly throttle. Unfortunately there next to none of these on eBay so I presume not many people buy them due to their ridiculously high cost.

There doesn’t seem to be anything else on the market. The Thrustmaster Warthog is excellent build quality but seems more geared towards military than GA.

Yeah, I’ve got the Bravo throttle quadrant from Honeycomb and it takes the same amount of desk space that the Alpha yoke does since they use the exact same mounting mechanism so it requires quite a bit of space. I am very happy with how it performs so far though. A word of caution if you do end up trying to go that route - I ordered mine on November 2nd, 2020 and did not receive it until July 9th of 2021. Honeycomb has contracted production of their products out to facilities in China and they have been massively hampered by supply shortages over the last year and this doesn’t seem to be getting any better. It might be a VERY long time before we see any of their products come back in stock and anyone allowing you to order any of their products now is probably back ordered well into 2022.

How about a C172 / Mooney-style GA throttle quadrant? You could try to find a used Saitek TPM throttle or look at this here:

https://www.simmax.it/negozio/prodotti-for-home-cockpit/hardware-switch-panel-cessna-c172/single-throttle-engine-pp-new-version/

Thanks for recommending those but the Saitek one looks quite old now I doubt it will be compatible with FS2020, also discontinued.

The Simmax one looks quite good although looks more suited towards a cockpit build rather than on a desk. I’m looking more for the Virtual Fly style like the TQ3 ideally.

Has anyone got a TQ3 or TQ6?

The Saitek TPM is compatible. It’s a simple system with three axes. Just assign the axes and you’re done. Same with the Simmax TPM. It’s a USB device like the Saitek. So that shouldn’t be any problem at all. (Simmax also offers a version of the TPM that is to be included with a full cockpit)

But since you’re looking for a TQ3-style throttle I can’t recommend anything I’m afraid. Had been looking for anything like that myself and had the same problems:

  • Bravo: too bulky,
  • Saitek too cheaply made
  • TQ: too expensive.

… So in the end I went for cheaply made and modified them a little so they have more resistance.

I’m surprised by the lack of choices for throttles. While I can cope with the size of the Honeycomb yoke the throttle unit to match is far too bulky in my opinion.

The Virtual Fly seems almost perfect apart from 2 things.

  1. The high cost
  2. The lack of support in FS2020 for the reverse detents. I’ve seen a few people on YouTube commenting that this is not supported. Although this may have changed now. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Saitek throttle works , i used one before getting a bravo, still got it and the saitek cessna yoke. Its alright bit basic now when you put it along side a bravo. Agreed the bravo has got a big footprint, good bit of kit though and an autopilot as well makes it good value

The TCA quadrant from thrustmeter is a great throttle for the a320 if you plan on frequently flying on airbus and any future planes that might come out they also have an addition with spoilers, flaps, brakes etc

you can find more info about it here.

See VIRPIL products.

I agree as I own the set, the throttle the side stick and the add on and it’s excellent looks good as well.

Great functionality

The only issue is finding the things I used various Amazon counties to track mine down. As these things are rare.

Happy hunting
