Are you on a wireless connection or wired?
Wired. Also tried my lte connection which is like 250mbps. No change. No change even with the manual cache
I have 4 Mbit/s I’m so f***** especially as the manual cache is GARBAGE. at least i know my local area now by heart. starting to get boring though
Fair enough. Just trying to think of anything. It’ll be interesting to see how the performance and stability changes affect the streaming. I, too, thought it was strange that manual caching didn’t really improve the Miami area. I fly out of KTMB a lot and wanted that area cached so I could load in easier, but I didn’t see a difference. Truthfully, I don’t really know what is included with manual caching… is it only terrain? Is it everything?
I did a quick test. this picture is Seattle in offline mode.
This one is full manual cached in highres and ofcourse also in offline mode.
and finally a screenshot in online mode. (i have 500 mbit internet).
Indeed less difference with manual cache mode, except the fact that you have better weather.
I also have 4 Mbps and still able to play online and the game is generating data efficiently so I have nice vistas. Don’t hesitate to explore and just increase your rolling cache.
Manual cache doesn’t work as it should actually so no point in using it right now…I’ve made numerous tests and it simply doesn’t work…
I can hardly believe that. 4 Mbps is utterly (s)low and I’m always getting the “your bandwidth is sh1te you’re now flying offline with the worst of ground textures have fun”-message. I thought I’d have more luck with the bush trips but no. My rolling cache is full at 99 GB and my manual cache is currently at 250 GB. I’m moving into a student hostel in October and I hope I’ll have better bandwidth there. I still don’t quite know what the rolling cache actually is to be honest.
Can you send over a screenshot of your settings perhaps? Maybe if I apply yours I’ll be able to fly without manually caching then. Cheers
Rolling cache is the data your game is downloading while you are flying over an area. Lets say you are flying over New York, it will store the data in the rolling cache folder so if you fly again over it it won’t redownload it - it’ll simply use the data from the rolling cache folder (so you’ll have better scenery faster because you won’t have to download them each time).
Manual cache is if you want to stock data before flying over an area…but it doesn’t work actually so don’t bother with it.
I have better results simply flying over areas and streaming data live. I was even able to have high quality photogrametry over a small city (Quebec city) after a few passages but got a few warning that my internet connection was too low for photogrametry but ignored it and was able to fly over and get the data.
That being said, I’m more a backcountry guy though looking for nice landscapes so not much into cities so that’s perhaps why I have better results even with a low internet connection (cities have a lot more data to download)
My data setting are :
- online mode ON (of course)
- data from bing map ON
- photogrametry (OFF except for that time I flew over Quebec city)
- live traffic OFF
- live weather OFF
- multiplayer ON
I spent the evening flying in Nepal at the famous airport at high altitude with plenty of other players around and didn’t experience any problem or low connection warning. Was able to fly close with other plane and had a smooth experience.
IMPORTANT : in the main menu when you click on your avatar it’ll show in which server you are. I was on “Auto” and realized that it put me in Western N-A while I’m in Eastern N-A. The Eastern server had better ping than the western so I manually switched to it and I think I’m having better results since too so look which server is the best for you.
My speed test results are in average around 4.0 Mbps
