Greetings!
Assume:
- I am at an airport and I am at any arbitrary gate. (Gate “X”)
- My takeoff runway is runway “Y”, where runway “Y” is at some distance from my gate. (i.e. the taxiing distance is non-trivial and I am not starting up on the runway.)
- I wasn’t planning to file a flight plan since I’m simming off-line, (not multiplayer), and I just want to experiment with what it’s like to fly in “live weather”.
- After I take off, I’m going to just futz around - I might not even land, I just want to see what “live weather” is all about.
Case 1.
- It’s night time where I am, and even though at a major airport, it’s as dark as the inside of a pocket with nothing but little green, blue and white lights showing on the ground.
- I have no idea how to get from Gate “X” to runway “Y”.
Case 2.
- It’s daytime and I can see things.
- But I still have no idea how to get from Gate “X” to runway “Y”.
Theoretically, I could use “taxiway arrows” to guide me, but how do I tell it where I want to go?
I find it simplest to use Littlenavmap: can be downloaded here There is a ton of information on the useful little app on the forums. It also has a great user manual that can be downloaded on the same page.
It connects to MSFS using Simconnect so you will see your aircraft on the map wherever you currently are. FWIW: just a quick screenshot of a local airfield to give you an idea of generally what it shows.
Widish view:
Zoomed a bit more to show taxiway numbers
I consider it one of the few essential apps for me.

Installed it, and am going through the configuration steps.
One thing I noticed is that there is a little “home” icon that supposedly represents your “home” (airport?) which is set out in the canary islands or something like that in the Atlantic Ocean. (It’s actually located at the intersection of the Equator and the Prime Meridian.)
I have searched high-and-low and there is no mention of how to move or set a “home”. Do you know how?
Right-click on map, down the bottom of menu “More” then “Set Home”

You DA BOMB!
Translation: Have you been nominated for sainthood yet?
Actually, both you and @SlabsFly should be saints. . .

Down south where I came from, we say “if it was a snake, it woulda’ bit me!”
You’d think it would be in the manual somewhere and/or the manual should be more easily searchable. . .
