Hi there, Can someone please explain to me what SIDS and STARS are? Any help is appreciated. TIA.
SIDs are Departure Pattern, and STARs are Arrival Pattern.
They’re a set of approach or departure pattern procedures that airports published for pilots to follow when they depart or land. They’re there to make sure that pilots follow a pre-determined route near an airport so that they can manage the traffic accordingly and to avoid collisions.
SID: standard departures, you use them in IFR to leave the airport and connect to a fix that takes you to an IFR route
STAR: standard arrival, opposite of SIDs, are the IFR arrivals from your route waypoint into your initial approach fix for your instrument landing .
Its a simple way for ATC to notify your entrance/Exit routes to simplify the operations and maintain separation.
Thats my simple explanation, just browse the internet for further info

You will also find some of the procedures relate to noise abatement as well.
