Can the VFR map be tweaked to zoom in more, to be able to read runway numbers, please?

Actually, it already does that. You can just about make out runway numbers, although this may vary from airport to airport.
Great idea! For an example of the right way to do it ( or at least inspiration) look at xplanes implementation. In that you click on the airport and get the airport details like altitude, runways etc.

What would also be nice on the vfr map would be some sort of scale like you have on a real map. So you know how are something is from the aircraft.
At the moment there is no way of knowing.
