fixed cameras can be changed with “Control+Number” “Number” is between 0 and 9. but I don’t like the default fixed views. Can we customize the fixed camera views as we do for cockpit camera views?
Yes you can. Few YouTube videos on it.
For me I believe its CTRL + ALT and press key 1-9
If you want to modify the wing views you need to edit the config file.
You can always download custom view packs from flightsim.to
I adjusted my default cockpit view, and believe the same should work for fixed views:
- set up the view you would like to use, and store it temporarily as a custom view (make a copy of the cameras.cfg first if you don’t want to lose the original view)
- open the custom cockpit views cameras.cfg (dependent on your install type, e.g. mine is at C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SimObjects\Airplanes\PMDG DC-6B
- find the section for the custom view, e.g Custom view 1 corresponds to section with Title=“1”, and copy InitialXyz= … and InitialPbh= …
- open the aircraft camera.scfg (mine is at D:\MSFSDATA\Community\pmdg-aircraft-dc6\SimObjects\Airplanes\PMDG DC-6B
- find the section that corresponds to the fixed camera you want to replace (might take some detective work
), and replace the InitialXyz and InitialPbh values, save
- restore your original custom view cameras.cfg
As I said, this worked for me for replacing the “DefaultPilot” view, but I think it should work the same for the other views (including fixed views) as well.
Thanks a lot for the comment. Will check and post the results .
Thank you very much for your comprehensive answer. Cleared lot of my other ambiguities. I will check it and post the results.
Bring back the old “press S” view system of FS9 and FSX.
Thanks for this I’d been looking for an easier way to get the coordinates for the camera views and this is great.
For any Steam users the custom camera config files are here for the Baron for example;
C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_Baron_G58
It took me ages to find the right folder on steam, the Airplanes folder is hiding in plane site amongst a load of other aircraft folders.
Oh and don’t forget to copy the initialzoom value too
It did not work for the fixed camera. Fixed cameras can not be changed it seems.

CTRL + ALT and press “1” that should save a custom camera.
You can repeat this process as far as “7” I normally use 6 and 7 for custom wing views but you need to edit the camera config file for this.
here is a video to explain.
HI,
I wanted to know bout the Fixed cameras. You get fixed cameras by pressing END and then pressing 1-9 keys.
this Video explains about the Custom cameras, which directly get by pressing the numericals.
Yes but you mentioned you don’t like the fixed default views no?
Yes. I want to see whether I can change them (Fixed views) as per my taste…
I presume the views you mean by pressing CTRL followed by numeric 1-9?
I believe not. There fixed hence why changing would become a custom view..
My issue is I use custom views to look around the cockpit while flying..that’s why Kevin…
Maybe it’s dependent on the aircraft, but I just tried it, works fine for me. I mapped the engine instruments view in the DC-6
[CAMERADEFINITION.5]
Title ="Engine Instruments"
to a passenger seat view in the cabin, and it displays fine on Control-2 (which was previous bringing up the engine instruments view).
You did the edit while MSFS was not running, and then restarted, right?
Yes I first edited the camera.cfg and saved it and then fired the MSFS 2020 up. I thing we cannot change the fixed views…By altering the camera.cfg we change the custom views only and not the fixed views.
The views I meant was the ones we can get just by pressing the numerical keys 1-9 without pressing Ctrl. We can view “Fixed views” first by entering into external views (END key) then by pressing 1 -9 keys.
