Memory logging will be enabled in the first Sim Update 2 Beta build, which will cause a small decrease to performance (in particular during menu transitions). The telemetry we receive from this memory logging will aid our investigations into stability improvements. This memory logging will be removed from the Sim Update 2 Beta before release, or as soon as we have enough data.
That was from the first beta patch notes, I still have unacceptable performance in VR and don’t know whether the Logging is causing this issue, can we please have a definitive answer as to whether this Logging is still happening or not?
If not then I’ll be worried, if it is still happening then I’m hoping that is the main cause for my poor performance. As currently I have no desire to help beta test this product in its current state.
Thanks
(P.S. please don’t turn this into a “have you tried this setting or that setting or maybe it’s your PC” thread, I am a seasoned VR user with years of experience in multiple titles so I know when something is not right on my end and in this case there is nothing wrong on my end!)
I went back to SU1 and performance is clearly much better, still no response is troubling though, beginning to think they’ve gone backwards generally with performance irrespective of the logging.
It is also possible that they test different things with each beta release that may affect user groups differently to find the code that works best across all platforms. This would make for an uneven experience for beta users, and hard for us to guess what the final release will be like. While good to go back to the current public release, we might keep in mind that any one beta version may not be representative of the release candidate, so hard to guess trends in beta? And telemetry does place a drain on user systems/experiences, so always nice when done!
Do they have a duty to communicate what they are testing this week/release to us? As I understand it, the expectation is that we fly the sim, play the game, and they will collect telemetry data. When bug reporting, which is certainly optional, we are asked to keep the release notes in mind and a clear community folder if on PC. Why make it more complicated than that? Are we in the need to know about anything beyond that?
I can confirm that Memory Logging was disabled after the 1.4.7.0 (first SU2 Beta) build, and should no longer be present in any of the subsequent Beta releases!
Yes because we’re helping them test, if we don’t know whether particular procedures are affecting performance then how are we supposed to offer valid feedback?!
Thank you, then that is extremely worrying as stated the performance is very poor for me. I shall exit the beta and return to SU1 as above I can no longer properly test anything due to this issue, I got this gets rectified in a future beta build/before public release.
