Can we have our Classic flyby views and tower views back please

Please bring back a Fly-By view, that then ends in a cinematic Chase Plane view, where the view is cinematic like in a movie, with the camera bobbing, banking to keep up with the plane.

It would be a lot like the Cinema Cut-scene effects of the opening graphics when you have finished loading a flight , and there are different views of your aircraft, taxiing to the runway, before the Yellow ‘Ready to Fly’ button comes up.

Unfortunately another Dev Q&A where this wasn’t tackled at all.

Maybe it is too difficult to implement? Maybe there’s too many aircraft now developed or published by Asobo that would need flyby sounds added or at least a way of the engine getting louder depending on distance.

Whatever the reason, it really doesn’t feel like it will ever be added or even addressed in MS2020. Which is a massive shame considering how many votes this particular wishlist has.

It does seem we have an answer to this wishlist thread. Although it’s still never been addressed on any Dev Livestream, it does say on the Wishlist on the Development Update, “Planned MS2024” so any hopes of this being added to MS2020 are probably gone however hopefully it’ll be in MS2024 at launch.

I guess the reason is that it’s difficult to implement due to memory problems.
When you press on a “outside” view you”ll see what they mean, choppy, stuttering and laggy at first. Later it becomes smooth.
So, for a good fly by view like the one in DCS or XP you need a better memory management in the graphical engine.
Now, MSFS 2024 will probably have a much better engine or so..

Yes! Playing ATC was a blast!

It features on the wishlist as 2024+ so it won’t launch with this feature.

or lua or python interface and Ill do it…“Linda!”?

I am REALLY hoping that msfs24 will include a few of the classic modes like flyby and tower view.

From the FSElite hands-on article:

Sadly, I don’t have much to report here as the camera system operated largely the same way we saw it in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The UI has had a bit of a change visually, but beyond that, I was unable to notice any significant changes here.
We did ask about a camera API and the question was passed on for something to consider in the future. Nothing concrete was given here, nor was there anything too exciting to write about here.

If this is true, this is going to be a real disappointment .

I think, if you know the initial camera position relative to the aircraft and the drone speed, you could in theory build an add-on that could move the camera via keybinds (or vjoy or similar) to achieve these effects. At max speed (which can be set via SimConnect) the drone can shift quickly. You’d need to offset for aircraft movement. But it could be done. Maybe now’s the time to think about it.

MSFS 2024 will NOT have a basic flyby or tower view. These specific requirements were requested by the community many times for MSFS 2020, and Asobo and Microsoft completely ignored the communities requests.
Hell I even asked for these camera views in the alpha and beta stages of MSFS 2020, but they never even acknowledged or made any statements on the issue. It seems rather odd, that either they are either incapable of creating the basic flyby or tower cameras, and so gave us the silly drone cameras instead, which are only good for making promotional videos, or someone at Asobo or Microsoft just doesn’t want them included for some sad reason. Its a real shame because these additions would make MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 it far more immersive, than fiddling and setting up silly drone cameras to watch a simple flyby and our takeoffs from the tower view. A million updates and improvements to MSFS 2020, but they couldn’t be bothered, or are unable to give us a much requested simple flyby and tower view.
Now we have MSFS 2024, where you can take pictures of the wildlife and watch the breeze blow the grass around, but still no basic Flyby or Tower cameras. This and the lack of credible grassroots feedback from Asobo, tell us all we need to know about the Classic Flyby views and Tower views…We wont be getting them! Instead of decent camera options, like in X-Plane, DCS World etc, they gave us drones instead…Drones!

A recent developer stream which took place (25/09/2024), it was the first stream to talk in more detail about the new simulator. A specific question was asked, Will there be tower and fly-by camera views? the answer was These camera views are not supported yet but they will look at adding them if the community still want them present.
The complete Q and A stream can be found at the ‘fsnews.eu site’.
What I found irritating at Asobo’s answer, was ’ if the ‘community’ still want them’…THEY know full well we want them. We have forums here, full of this specific requirement and Wishlist.
So make of their statement what you will.

Is it so difficult for them to do these flyby views and tower views ? I mean does it require so much time ?

Did we have it in FSX? There’s your answer…

Yes there was…

Whilst Asobo have done a fantastic job on MSFS 2020, the actual engine they used to create it, was Originally developed in the 1990’s by Kalisto Entertainment, then re-purposed by Asobo Studio whom most of the founders had worked at prior as their own in-house game engine which is called Zouna. Search for pcgamingwiki Engine:Zouna
This is the same flexible engine powering many games, but it was the first time they had combined it using old FSX code into a flight sim, while using Microsoft Azure to provide over two petabytes of world map data taken from the cloud on demand.
Its a really fantastic achievement, but sadly when they created this Frankenstein’s monster of a flight sim, they sadly messed up/omitted/deliberately left out parts of the code for external cameras. Its ironic as they copied over and created the Camera config settings into the MSFS 2020 local cache folder. Where both the Flyby camera, Tower Camera and spot views are all present as config entries, but they didn’t include the actual code needed to use these cfgs into the actual sim.
How sad they can create such an amazing game/sim and yet leave out the important bits. I am now believing its most probably because they know they left the FSX code out of their Zouna engine, and its now an impossible or almighty hard task to integrate them. But for the love of god Asobo, get this sorted please if it can be done,… if it cant, then just admit it and we can all move on.
Whenever i see another tech talk/interview by Asobo staff on You tube staff now, i just get irritated and frustrated at their new ‘great’ features.

I would rather have a basic flyby and tower view, rather than take pictures of animals or see the pebbles and grains on a beach. Imagine doing your water fire bomb drops whilst in live flyby camera mode, but nope, we still have the silly quirky camera options they give us, and the convoluted pain in the backside drones.
But don’t worry, I have heard that a new update for MSFS 2024 will allow us to pet the animals and take selfies sat with the lions, and invite our online buddies top virtual camping trips and sit by virtual camp fires whilst we sing songs.

Yes i will be supporting Asobo and purchasing the new MSFS 2024, it will offer some amazing new features, and am sure it will deserve our support. They are doing amazing things.

Anyway here are the included FSX code entries in the MSFS 2020 Local cache folder that you wont be getting in MSFS2020 or sadly MSFS 2024..I would really love, and hope to be proven wrong:

That pretty much says it all for so many of us, I think. Thank you.

These views are being developed for MSFS2024 by Fabio
(who also developed the third party replay system for MSFS2020, and the included one for MSFS 2024). They may not be ready for launch date, but if not, will be included in a future update!

Fingers crossed he can work his magic, and at least give us something resembling a flyby camera and tower views. Thanks for the heads up..We now have a glimmer of light at the end of this very long tunnel.
