Cancelling Xbox subscription

I’m am very confused. I had the game pass from the off .I was planning on paying the £1.00 then owning the game outright after this . I didn’t end up doing this but want to do this now . My subscription runs out in a week . I want to purchase the deluxe version. But the Microsoft store has this as "buy as a gift "
I could buy the standard version for £47.99 which includes a 20% discount for having a game pass .
When my subscription ends and if I decided to buy the standard version would the game still work without a game pass subscription. Or would it better to just buy the deluxe version on steam for £79.00 to avoid any confusion .

The version you get through ‘Game Pass’ is the ‘Standard Version’. This is like a lease, you do not own it. If you buy the Standard version through either store, you will own the sim and you will get to use it without your Game Pass subscription.

If you do want the premium or premium deluxe versions, do buy them outright as you get a bundled discount.

You can buy any of the three versions outright through Steam or the Windows Store, whichever platform you prefer. As for the ‘buy as gift’ issue, you should be able to buy it for yourself. Is there some sort of dropdown on that page?

OMG Too many Salesmen! It should be made Illegal!

Hi
When I click on buy as a gift I get a window to enter the email address I want to send the gift too .
Its priced at £63.99 I had a quick scan of the terms and conditions . I didn’t spot anything about buying it for yourself was not allowed . But it begs the question as to why it didn’t give me the option to buy it outright when if I want to buy the premium deluxe or standard edition it does .

Out of curiosity, did you buy the premium upgrade from the in-game marketplace?

I haven’t bought anything yet . All I have is the the game pass which I’m using for access to the standard edition

Well…

Would you like it on Steam? You’ll likely have to pay more, but there should be less confusion and from my experience, the Steam version runs well.

If you would prefer to get it directly from Microsoft, then you could try reaching out to Xbox Support to see if they can help you with your purchase issue.

Please note, if you want to make use of “Xbox Play Anyware”, you need to buy it through the Windows Store and not Steam.

Oh Wow Nyx1819. MS Employee Or Forum Mod. Are U promoting Steam? U been popping up a lot so I can Only guess that you are some kind of Robot in the forum and am watching me!

Microsoft is selling the simulator digitally on two platforms, the Windows Store, and on Steam. (Play Anywhere is only available through the Windows Store).

And Xbox!?

Thanks for your help . It seems all my clicking on the Microsoft store looking at options somehow caused the deluxe upgrade to be purchased . Which is as useful to me as an ashtray on a motor bike .
I quickly requested a refund which thankfully Microsoft processed instantly . So I think I am going to run my subscription out .Delete the base game and start again on another platform .

I will admit it’s weird. I just checked and you’re right there is no option to buy the standard version, only deluxe and premium in the gamepass app.

However…if you run the microsoft store app and search for “microsoft flight simulator” it will give you the option to buy the standard version for £47.99, discounted because you have gamepass.

Hope that helps.

Note: this seems to be the same for all games from Microsoft Game Studio, example Halo and Crackdown

Just like to clarify . I cancelled my Xbox pass in November . The pass runs until December 17th. I still qualify for any discount on any of the Microsoft products including the deluxe edition . I bought this for £63.99 in the Microsoft store this includes the base game, digital ownership . I telephoned Microsoft to confirm all this. After purchase I was invited to download . This was the confusing part , I already had the game installed on my SSD but I definitely didn’t want two installations on the drive . So I moved the original folder onto an external drive . Before downloading I also reset my Microsoft app . The download took about 7 hours to complete .Although the deluxe content along with landing challenges bush trips flight tutorials etc had to be downloaded from content manager after installation . That must be because I had selected a custom installation .
I very happy with everything , especially the Cessna Skyhawk . It flies so accurately holding altitude and heading with power and trim just like the real one .

Sorry if this is too neophytish (new to this forum) but what’s the difference between launching the program from the Xbox app and launching the prog. off my HD? My Xbox free month’s subscription is up tomorrow and I’m trying to understand the value of paying $12/M if I don’t want any other games. If I only want to run FS20 is it OK to cancel Xbox or is there some value-added from Xbox related to FS20. Thanks and HNY fellow (gender neutral) flyers.

Your “Xbox” Game Pass subscription lets you install and use Gamepass games for the duration of your subscription. You do not own these games, this means if you let your subscription run out you lose access. Game pass is a really good way to try a game with minimal risk or to have access to an entire library of games without having to pay for each one.

If you only want access to MSFS, then I suggest you buy a licence from either Steam or the Windows Store as the ongoing subscription cost will eventually surpass the cost of outright ownership. If you want advice on which platform to purchase the sim on there is various threads which you can find through the search system.

A few quick points for if you decide to purchase a licence:

  • Only the Windows Store version is a play-anywhere title - This means you can play it on both Windows and Xbox so long as you use the same account

  • The Windows Store may offer you a discount if you are an active game-pass subscriber - If you want the discount, assuming it is active, you will need to make the purchase before it runs out.

  • If you think you may want access to the extra bespoke airports/aircraft in the premium deluxe or deluxe version, ensure you the appropriate version outright as you get a bundled discount. If you buy an upgrade through the in-game market place later, you pay a significantly higher amount.

Best of luck.

None, you can launch directly from Windows or through Xbox app on PC. As for cancelling Game Pass it comes down to how long you think you may be playing MFS2020 - if indefinitely then you’re better off buying a copy of STD, Deluxe, or Premium.

Thanks … I did initially get the Gamepass to get a bit of a discount off the purchase off the Premium Digital MSFS2020. Now that’s downloaded onto my HD, until I have plans or a need for more Xbox/Gamepass games, I’m gonna suspend my $12/M subscription. Might be other benefits down the road. Thanks for the response.
