ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
It doesn’t seem to be possible to bind VR Controller Thumbstick up/down/left/right separately. In MSFS2020, many of us bound VR Controller thumbstick Up to Increase Cockpit Interaction, and thumbstick down to Decrease Cockpit Interaction.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
Permanent issue

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. There are no bindings available for VR Controller thumbstick up/down

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are currently plugged in, as well as your VR headset? Please name all of them as there could be a potential conflict.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?
Quest 2 VR headset and controllers

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

Same here! I didn’t understand why they remove the possibility to go up and down with thumbstick

I have the same problem.
What I have noticed is that in the standard settings you can see the direction arrow for the stick pointing upwards or downwards. If you try to map the stick according to your wishes, the arrow is always displayed in both directions.

It doesn’t make any sense, surely it’s just a mistake and hopefully a quick fix!

Here is some pics from my 2020 Valve Index controller bindings. It would be great if we can have this in 2024.

Can’t remember if I used “lockable” in 2020. What’s the difference in the lockable and non lockable versions?

I am not sure why I used lockable but wanted to document what is working much better in 2020. For me in how I like to fly in VR with no mouse and VR controllers and voice commands this is a show stopper for me.

Yes, I did the exact same thing in MSFS2020, cockpit interaction increase decrease to the VR controller thumbstick, this is no longer possible.

Sadly another showstopper for me at the moment

Attached screenshot on how it worked in 2020

• Yes same issue

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Using Pimax Crystal controllers, unable to replicate the bindings to increment and decrement knobs and switches, similar to using mouse scroll wheel in 2D/3D

Same here, those missing bindings from the quest 3 controllers are impacting very much my MSFS2024 experience. Hope this is an easy fix that can be added to the next patch.

I was watching Malic_VR on Twitch and I think he has a Quest and his VR controllers looked to be working much the same as 2020.

I have Valve Index controllers and my left is working the same as 2020 but the default bindings are missing from my right one.

I have the exact same problem with the Quest 3 controller. I can select vertical joystick in the settings for Cockpit Interaction - Increase / Decrease but the option to invert the axis is greyed out. I really hope this can be fixed soon!

I have found a workaround for this issue which works well.

However it requires you to use Notepad++ to make a couple of edits in the controller Profile for the VR Controller.

For anyone attempting this I urge you to make a copy of the relevant folder before attempting any edits. It could mess up your controller profiles so proceed with caution.

First you need to go into the sim, enter VR and navigate to Settings - Control. Select your VR controller and in ‘My new General Profile’ or whatever your profile is called go to and assign “Cockpit Interaction - Increase” & “Cockpit Interaction - Decrease” to the ‘Vertical Thumbstick’ in the VR Controller. You can do this using the gear option.

After doing that, save the changes and exit the sim.

Navigate to the following folder if bought using the MS Store:

C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs

There will be 2 folders. One which is named a lot of random numbers and the other which is named “t”. Click on the folder which is named a lot of random numbers.

Now again a lot of folders with random letters / numbers. These are the control profiles for your various peripherals. You need to find the one for the relevant VR Controller. This is easy using the ‘Date Modified’ column in Windows. The latest one modified is the VR Controller. I would suggest making a backup of this folder just in case.

Open that folder and open the file with the random letters / numbers using Notepad++

You should see something similar:

Make sure it says your VR Controller Right or Left next to Device Name at the top.

Now scroll down a bit and find this part:

Find where it says “Cockpit Interaction - Increase” in this file.

Below that it should say Thumbstick Y where your entry has been made under Primary.

Change the value of where it says ‘Flag’ to 132

Find where it says “Cockpit Interaction - Decrease” in this file.

Below that it should say Thumbstick Y where your entry has been made under Primary.

Change the value of where it says ‘Flag’ to 4

Save this file.

Now go back into the sim and go to Controls. Make sure to select ‘My new General Profile’ or whatever profile you had saved earlier for the VR Controller.

Now in VR, using your VR Controller thumbstick, you should be able to increase / decrease the knobs.

I won’t have chance to try this for a few days but wow what a find!

It works!! Thanks so much, I love to use VR controllers in the cockpit (seems like I’m the only one at times!)

I wondered how you managed to figure out the different values for flags? I would prefer to configure the whole controller in the config file, as you know it’s a nightmare in the options menu with the whole controller disappearing if you don’t use it for a few seconds. My setup in fs20 was toolbar and swap raycast on the buttons, push thumb stick for secondary interaction (eg airbus knob press) and squeeze for tertiary action (eg airbus knob pull).

Thanks - this works great. It seems to “convert” the controller assignment back to an axis within the controls screen too! Nice work!

Fantastic! Thank you very much! I will try it as soon as I am back home from travels.

Ironically I have identified 4 major problems for my MSFS 2024 usage, all VR, and 3 of them are “bug logged” and supposed to be solved in SU2. I was really worried about this one as it wasn’t even acknowledged. And guess what: none of the acknowledged bugs have been fixed yet, while this one has been by the community. Thank you very much. Maybe I will get back to 2024 now, I have moved back to 2020 until the fixes are available.

Best,

Jarek

While the work around is nice (thank you very much!) does anyone know if this has been addressed in SU2?

On SU2 Beta2 1.4.9.0 my Valve Index controllers are working very much like they did in 2020.

That is fantastic news. Hopefully SU2 really fixes most of our VR issues
