Tying to load a Simbrief Flight plan (have paid for the subscription) and have the plan but videos suggest it goes in a work/Flightplans folder that does not exist so I used:
I don’t save/load a SimBrief flight plan anywhere in my PC before flying a PMDG aircraft, it is not necessary. Once onboard, just prior to FMC preflight, the most recent flight plan I made in SimBrief can be pulled into the FMC by using the PMDG Universal Flight Tablet’s EFB function. No need to specify any files or locations, the last one I put into SimBrief gets pulled into the FMC. What might you be trying to do that is different than the above?
I think I got it. A lot of moving parts. This video does it manually…
I do not see the PMDG Universal Flight Tablet’s EFB function. I see Simbrief Dispatch. I was able to find my flight plan and it loaded… needs editing.
Is this a separate PMDG app or are we referring to the same thing?
I have to see if I can make a better plan to include the ILS. I do not want to enter all this stuff manually… have a Commercial license and this is not fun for me rather fly.
Once you are on the flight deck of the 777, open the UFT and look for the EFB icon. Once you have your SimBrief account linked, you can then download directly from SimBrief the last flight plan you made in SimBrief. No need to manually enter the route into the FMC. You will have to manually select your SIDs, STARs and approach procedure. What follows is my process flow, in part, to give you an idea of how this works with minimal effort on our part:
FMC PREFLIGHT (B77W MCP)
PMDG SETUP>
PANEL STATE LOAD>
<ATGATEGPU, EXEC, wait
“BOEING 777” Ground Operations
Ground Maintenance: perform
Ground Connections: Jetway
EFB: Request Data from SimBrief
FMC: POS INIT>

<SET PAYLOAD, FUEL>
SELECT RTE> Performance Tool

INIT REF: PERF INIT DATA
ACCEPT> ZFW, THRUST LIM>
Performance Tool, SELECT RWY
Runway Cond: Wet, Dry, SN
Aircraft, Import from Aircraft
Flap Config & Rating OPTIMUM
A/I Config A/R, A/C ConfigAUTO
Import Weather, Calculate
Set Derate then…
Sel Temp: to SEL, compare N1
TAKEOFF> FLAPS, CG, CG
Compare TRIM, V1, Vr, V2
MCP: set V2; [FD] x2 on
Hope this helps. You may also want to review the excellent PMDG documentation!
Thanks, I think I may have bit off more than I want to chew with this aircraft. One last question, does the runway and approach come in anywhere? I did not seem to see it under ARR.
On the ARR, or arrival page, one can select a standard arrival procedure (STAR) along with any transitions and the approach procedure. The runway is specified as part of the approach, i.e., ILS 31R, or what not. While I do not know for sure, one may be able to select just the runway, but I always select a procedure even if I will not strictly follow it in visual conditions. Good questions!
Well appreciate the effort but think I am giving up. Just way too many button presses that can go wrong. I gave up flying at age 60 after passing my IFR competency check with one of the first G1000s in the C-172. The FAA examiner said I could be an instructor but I knew it was time to quit. I am 76 now and I am afraid I would need even more detailed checklists to do this beast justice. 787 is just forgiving and the MS Flight Planner is complete and also easy. In any case, thanks for the help.
Well I got the 777 to work and it was probably worth the effort. This aircraft has a lot more in it than it needs to fly but it looks pretty good on CapFrameX… better than the Asobo 787 and 737.
After downloading and activating the Simbrief FP in the EFB, then in the cockpit on the FMC:
Route
Request
Load
Activate
Execute
DEP ARRIV
Index
Arriv- SFO ARRIV ILS28R
Transition DUMBA
Exec
DUMBA INTC
Exec
Then it shows up in Legs
I just dialed in the transition Altitude… need to hit each button to register… then the AP LNAV and FLCH
Rest is history. Thanks for the help… the diagram is the ILS at SFO the last 3000’ in a coupled approach… my standard way of testing… from my sim days.
This is a long flight from Reno Nevada to SFO and complex transition. I did a lot of hacking to get from Simbrief to the data in the aircraft.
I also did not follow all the VNAV procedures but got to SFO and landed manually. Must be some tricks with autoland.
Note the smooth last 3000’ on the landing and the fact that the CPU and the GPU and the VRAM are NOT pegged, and whatdaya know MSFS 2024 works just fine.
Yes, at the end of the day the 787 is a bit easier to use due to MS FlightPlanner versus Simbrief, despite the superior performance of the 777. Here is the same flight with the 787 and you can see it uses a bit more VRAM and has a few more FPS bumps but they are not severe. Pays your $ and takes your choice.
