Can't get past Xbox login screen

Hello. Have played FS2020 plenty, but had a new hard drive installed and now attempting a fresh installation with Steam.

Open the game with Steam, and am asked for Xbox credentials. I am able to provide them, but after logging in I get this screen of death that never goes any further:

Have completed these steps. No progress. I am signed into the Xbox app successfully even before attempting to start the game. Have started it from Steam and from the Xbox app. No success. I am perpetually stuck in the screen as pictured.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - this is my last ditch gasp, issues trying to play this game have plagued me for years and if I can’t remedy this, the juice simply won’t be worth the squeeze any longer and I’ll have to say farewell to FS for good.

I am not sure if this would be any help at all, but I usually logout and login again in the Microsoft Store account (thought windows browser) and ind the xbox account (i think you have already done the last one) when i have these kind of problems.

It 'usually’ works

Try

  1. Open Xbox app and sign out.
  2. Then, open Microsoft Store app and sign out.
  3. Go to Windows Settings → Apps → Installed Apps, click the three dots next to Gaming Services, and select Uninstall.
  4. Restart PC.
  5. Open Microsoft Store app and sign in.
  6. Then open Xbox app and observe the progress from 0% to 100% - this is when Gaming Services is being installed.
  7. Finally, sign in to Xbox app and launch MSFS.

No luck. Black box of death still in the middle of the screen as the game does nothing in the background.

I can now make out a message in the black box: “please retry with a different device or other authentication method to sign in. For more details, visit this link” - clicked the link, suggestions from there don’t work.

Other suggestions? “Buy Xplane?”

Solved (this issue, at least. Surely there will be something else, knowing MSFS). Created a new Microsoft account and for some reason, that was successful.

Just got the same issue after reinstalling. I’m using the Steam version. What worked for me after several attempts:

  • Uninstall from Steam
  • Delete C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
  • Delete <Steam Install Directory>\steamapps\common\MSFS2024
  • Close Steam
  • Connect to a VPN
  • Reinstall from Steam (disabled Steam’s cloud sync during installation)
  • Launch the game and login

Per the steam forum: “SOLUTION : Goto the XBOX live website and log in, it will prompt you to create a pass key that you can then use when you load the game.”

This worked for me. With the pass key sent to my phone I was then able to log into MSFS.

I lost hours today with the same problem (black box after entering the password), I finally fixed by logging into this form and since then, MSFS is not popping up the login window anymore.

It is unacceptable (and illegal) that someone can’t use something that has been paid, due to a login failure clearly not depending by the user.

It is also unacceptable that no one from MS/ACES is taking care of answering to a such important question.

I tried all the solutions mentioned and nothing worked. What finally worked was when I disabled 2FA in my MS account. I guess this resets the login flow in the game, so it actually did a 2FA check there (email), entered the code and bam, got in.

I had this issue and can confirm disabling 2FA worked for me, I also had to use the email challenge (numbers sent to email) as I did try just logging in with the password again and that failed.

Now prior I had input the wrong password couple of times and had to disable the highest level of 2FA (passwordless logon - using challenge & fingerprint on phone etc.) as my Android 10 device no longer supported this feature. So perhaps this messed up the tokens on MS End??? I also had cleared all elements of credential manager and XBL XBox gaming services + more, service repairs and hell of a lot more…..

I went against AI advice to disable 2FA - it was wrong as it worked. Now I do have an event log error for GameInputRedistService.exe with 0xc0000005, however the service itself is running and perhaps it’s silently recovering??? So if you have that event error it may not be causing you any issues…..

My install continues……crossed fingers.

I have the same issue. MSFS 2024 on steam. Tried playing today after some months and cannot input anything when I get asked for xbox login. Things I tried.

removed community folder

Game updated

XBOX app login

no 2fa enabled on MS account

tried the windowed mode

still no go

I’d say you’re actually dealing with a different issue. It might look like you can’t type anything, but that’s not really the case.

There are a couple of ways around it. The first one is to disconnect your Honeycomb yoke, then try entering your Xbox login details again.

In that case, try this: leave only your mouse and keyboard connected and unplug any other devices from your PC.
