Howdy all. So it’s been a couple of months since I have been able to run FS2020. I’ve been working with tech support but they only reply every couple of weeks and nothing they have suggested has worked. I have even installed a new Windows 10 as well as re-installed FS2020 no less than 10 times.
When I sent them the logs they asked for they say the issue is the NTDLL.DLL file. Of course, this file is such a huge pain in the you know… For windows’ issues, it’s right up there with the registry.
They suggest I get a new copy of it and replace it. Well, I have done everything every article and every video shows to do to replace it. However, windows will NOT allow me to replace it. Even in Safe Mode. It says I don’t have permission. I have even changed the ownership of all the folders and files inside those folders (NOT something I like doing!!!) and still it says I don’t have permission. So, how do I replace it?
I found a few apps that say they will do it, but I simply don’t have 20 or 30 bucks available to change a file. (Out of work for a couple months = no money for stuff like this…)
Thanks if anyone can help me out. What sucks is knowing that if somehow I get it replaced, my luck = it won’t fix the issue. UGH!
Says my system is good to go but it isn’t an option yet to upgrade via Updates. I downloaded the file to allow me to just update but it errors out every time I run it. I have the Image file so I could do a full NEW install of it if need be. But I JUST literally re-installed windows 10 Pro a couple weeks ago, and just got everything re-installed that I use and own… NOT really wanting to have to do all that again. Bummed as my mom, my sister, and several of my friends already got to update to win11. I was reading the updates may not be available until the end of 2022…I’m sure I’m on that list… LOL!!!
I may actually just do a full wipe and install of windows 11 by the end of today if I can’t get this file to be replaced.
I have done both of those. I have completed every list of every type on this situation. This is beyond frustrating. I am currently burning a Win11 installer dvd. I hope. LOL Everyone I know already has the UPDATE to win11 option. Mine (Windows Updater) states my computer is compatible and it will tell me when my version is ready. I wonder if it’s because I use Windows 10 Pro. And from what I have seen there is NO Windows 11 Pro. I’ll take the Win11 to see if it helps and upgrade to Pro when it’s available. But maybe it’s why the downloaded installer from MS keeps throwing errors. But I’m ready to just do a clean install so hoping maybe it will work…
Update to latest drivers for ALL of your hardware, that means mainboard (including bios), chipset … everything. My personal guess is that you are using peripherals from the last century.
Before you do another clean install, consider removing any hardware not needed to function. It sounds like windows is installing a conflicting driver.
The only items you need to install windows is your hard drive, motherboard, memory, GPU and PSU. After installing a fresh windows copy do check for updates a few times, while rebooting between each attempt.
Then try installing MSFS. Before you introduce any hardware back into the system.
If you are still having issues, try listing your hardware to see if anyone is managing OK with a similar set up. It is hard to second guess when do not know the whole story of what your system consists of.
Yes as said @syldon13 did a clean install of Windows, the drivers all that …
And just install MSFS without anything else, so you can determine if it comes from your PC or third-party software that you install on your machine.
