Brief description of the issue:
I assigned a key to toggle the Vario sound on / off but it doesn’t turn it off, so assigning a key to it doesn’t do anything
Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:
Assign a key to the Vario sound and then start using the glider DG Aviation LS8-18 and then try to turn the sound off, you will notice that no matter how many times you press your assigned key it wont do a thing
Build Version # when you first started experiencing this issue:
SU11

Yep, agreed. I noticed the same issue right away. The other thing is that both sailplanes that were added have their airspeed indicators and altimeters in metric units only (kph/km). That’s great for Europeans, but gliders in the U.S. generally have airspeed in knots (and some in mph, mostly old Schwezers), and altitude in feet.
I fly sailplanes in real life, and I’ve always hated audio variometers, frankly. The beeping gets really annoying after a while. I usually turn it off or at least turn the volume way down. I’d rather just keep an eye on the variometer needle. In Colorado, where I fly, the thermals are usually so strong that you definitely know how you’re doing most of the time just by the seat of your pants, and the vario just shows you the climb or sink rate.
There are a number of other issues with the gliders in the sim at the moment, but for a first attempt it’s pretty good, all things considered. The DG-1001 has the front pilot’s head poking through the canopy; in the LS-8, it’s difficult to fly the high tow position because you can’t even see the tow plane and can’t raise the view; on takeoff roll in the LS-8, I had to forcefully unstick the glider from the ground to get it airborne and the tow plane actually lifted off before me - that is the opposite of what actually happens; the yaw string always has a curl to one side in it for some strange reason; adverse yaw seems way too mild for a sailplane; and the poor resolution of the instrument graphics and inability to toggle a closer view makes it difficult to read them without using mouse to zoom in. Those are just some issues I’ve found in the first flight or two.

Also I couldn’t find a physical switch/interface inside the cockpit. Seems odd.

I have noticed the wind noise level is increasing in thermals….in reality it is the opposite. No wind noise in thermals and wind noise is increasing according to speed
Yup, also the variometer only makes a sound when you start in flight, it never makes a sound when you start on the runway even when turning it on.
Actually, in real life when you enter a strong thermal you will both feel and hear a blast of air due to the rising air in the thermal. So you will hear both the sound of the slipstream from forward movement, as well as the sound of the air rushing up from below. Even while centered in a strong thermal, you will still hear extra wind noise generated by the gustiness of the thermal. That’s perfectly normal and is accurate. A strong thermal can be surprisingly loud when you enter it, even more so if the gaps around your canopy are not well sealed and it causes whistling.
Weaker thermals have less of an audible effect unless they’re gusty as well. It’s a common misconception that a glider cockpit is completely silent, which is not true at all.
Interesting trivia: I’ve had a number of times when I was thermalling during the winter (in real life) and stuck my hand out the “apple core” window (vent window) on the side of the canopy and felt the much warmer air in the thermal, even though I was flying on a pretty cold day. It’s really amazing to actually feel how much warmer it is.

On my side when I enter in a thermal I slow the glider speed and the wind noise decreases a lot…In the sim you decrease the speed when entering in the thermal and the global wind noise increases which is not conforming with the real life and it is very disturbing ( I prefer to cut off the pc volume). Perhaps it is only a problem of level adjustment…
I flew 2000 h in glider and mainly in the Alps mountains…
One can adjust, just as IRL, the vario volume by turning the upper left knob on the LX9000 unit. (screen in the center). However, I did not try to assign this to a key as I simply use the mouse.
+1 - I put the Vario swich on a key - no funcion
The volume knob is only in 1 glider not both so yeah we still need a key for it which is in the game it just doesnt work even if you assigned a key to toggle it on or off

Glad to see the feedback has been logged, it’s actually more a bug though because you can bind a key but it just doesn’t work
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
Yes

I assigned a key to goggle the vario sound on and off however it doesn’t work.

This is true-to-life for the RL LS-8. The older narrow panel option allows you to yaw a little to see the towplane to the side of the panel and you can also move your head a little. The larger panel in the MSFS model makes this work around impossible. When you fly at 100 knots, the nose down attitude creates a very comfortable sight picture. I think the aircraft design is optimized for the 100 knot sight picture.
In RL the pilot should release the tow rope as soon as the towplane disappears because of the possibility of kiting.
Hi, newbie here in MSFS and totally addicted to the gliders. So as I understand there is at this time no way to bind keys for the knobs oft the LX9000 unit ? I have an old button box with such knobs which I would like to assign to the four knobs in the cockpit.
