Career Medevac Mission: divert to nearest hospital - how?

So, I was flying a medevac last night in the Cessna 208B and everything was going fine. I think I was about 40min into the flight. Suddenly, the doc asks the nurse for a vitals check then says something to me like “It’s nothing you did, but we need to get this patient to the nearest hospital.”

Next thing I know, my mission objective in the little window disappears and the only option left in it is “Hold ALT + N to skip to descent.”

What was I supposed to do there?

There isn’t an option in the ATC window to declare an emergency and ask ATC for routing to the nearest airport that’s close to a hospital, which is what I think would happen in real life.

Last night, I went with “skip to descent” and that messed up the mission because during the descent I kept getting instructions from ATC to climb and maintain FL220 and when I used the ATC window to try to request a different approach (in hopes it would override the odd instructions), I got a crash-to-desktop.

No clue how I was supposed to handle the doctor’s instructions, and I can’t find info online about it.

I had the same mission at one point and ended up aborting it, however, I think you need to open the communications window, cancel ifr, and select a new airport (look at the tablet to find a near airport that would accommodate landing) and set the radio to the ATC on that airport. I am going to look for that same mission tomorrow to see if that works.

They tell you the airport on the comms.

Just happened to me. I pressed enter when prompted, and I issued a “pan pan pan” but then ATC ignored me completely. I pressed ALT + N to skip to decent, and it failed my mission. It’s still way too buggy for diversions like this.

I wasn’t told anything over comms, unfortunately. As I said, the doc told me “we need to divert to the nearest hospital” and that was it.

I asked this question on the MSFS Discord server and I was told I should play those missions with the augmented reality “floating blue brackets” on because what likely happened was those brackets changed on their own and I missed it because I usually play with them off. Frustrating.

When I got it, I had the blue brackets on, they did not change.

Oh, interesting. Good insight. So this issue isn’t just about the brackets being on or off.

I can confirm the same issue. I did have the medevac mission once before work as expected with a ‘return to the departure airport’ due to a life threatening complication on the patient (besides being sent to an airport with 24 knots crosswind) and there the mission steps as well as the ATC communication all showed precisely what I was expected to do.

Today, I had the issue same as the OP described, the doc and nurse text lines state the issue and ask me to return to the departure airport immediately.
However, ATC does not tell anything and there are no options to declare the pan pan. Being confused, I switched on the blue rectangles and they keep showing the original planned route, too.

EDIT / ADDITION: On another occasion with the same issue, I resorted to flying the originally planned route and could succesfully finish the mission by sticking to the original flight plan. The patient made it through (mission rating patient condition at 100%).
I did not use the ‘skip to’ function, but I did use the Increase Sim Speed function.

I had this happen to me today and tried precisely that. Everything worked, managed to contact ATC and request landing. Everything done, plane stops, boom mission failed, landed at wrong place.

I just had the same issue. Super frustrating. I ultimately restarted the mission several times in the process. I’ll explain what happened on each:

Attempt 1: Reached cruise alt at FL240, med staff start their checks then say i need to land immediately. I open up comms and request reroute. ATC says PAN PAN acknowledged, but gives no further guidance. I can’t cancel IFR because I’m too high, but whatever, emergency so I find the nearest suitable airport manually (I’m in the PC-24 so can’t stop on a dime), start going in the direction and request descent. Once I’m lower I cancel IFR. My selected airport doesn’t have a tower, but I still do the radios manually to select runway and announce landing etc. But when I finally land, I get a red warning that I’m “not permitted to land here and risk failing the mission” (similar to NanoFreakV2 i guess). I’m not gonna fly away and try again, so just restarted.

Attempt #2: Same thing process up through cruise and first medical check. Get told I need to land immediately, declare PAN PAN, but still don’t get any new routing. This time I try really hard to get ATC to adopt my new plan entered in the avionics (“request change of FP following instrumentation” or whatever that option is) which they say was approved but ATC says the destination is the original mission destination, and after that I can’t even get the “request new FP” radio options anymore. I get close to my newly selected airport, but it’s looking the same as attempt #1, so restart again.

Attempt #3: This time, for mysterious reasons, the patient has no complications, and we make it to the original destination uneventfully (other than autopilot on PC-24 occasionally deciding fly in circles rather than proceeding to the next waypoint. Pilatus nav is so frustrating…).

So, I guess one fantasy-breaking solution is to just keep restarting until your patient gets luckier…?

This happens EVERYTIME for me. I cant complete a MedEvac mission because:

  • No ATC works to set up a diversion
  • I go to type in the airport name and the game throws up an error saying “unexpected end of game” as the keyboard pops up
  • I tried t o skip to decent…and the game put me 400 ft from the water decending at 3500fpm with both “g-force exeeded” and “you cant park it here mate” warnings
  • Or I choose an airport, set up all the maps, land, and meet the “cant land that here mate!”

It’s a bit of a joke as im now just limited to light courier stuff in a 172….brilliant.

only way I’ve found to complete these is to declare the Pan Pan and then continue to your destination. It’s totally unrealistic but at least it completes the mission.

this is the way. Just call pan pan and fly to origin destination. After this crew and nurses are so happy with you and 100% medic points. completely BS but hey…that msfs

This was not this way some months ago, I think in SU 1. When declaring pan pan you could see the airport to which you were forced to go. If you didn’t go there your mission failed and the patient was dead. If you did your patient was saved and you were rewarded. This was somehow spoiled in SU 2 and now it works as you say. I hope it gets fixed in SU 3.

They need to fix this, it is so frustrating. This along with all the other career mode issues. Having career mode makes it more of a ‘game’ than just a sim, and i really like the concept. Here’s hoping su4 will sort it all out….
