I have not detected any penalty for increasing the fuel. But I’ve received penalties for several reasons completely incoherent… Most of them have already been reported as malfunctions.
But even changing the fuel in flight I have received an S as qualification.
I quite understand your “gamer” point of view, being myself a gamer, but this program is all about learning to fly. And that includes devising, creating and managing flight plans with all their options. And certainly that’s something that requires a lot of time.
The career lets you fly with a default flight plan that lets you complete the mission, but you can also design and create your own plan. And in the long term I think you’ll find this as an important part of the fun. For me it is.
I don’t think you read my full comment; I don’t blame you. It’s long and I have trouble being concise most days.
I thoroughly enjoy learning what every switch and button does in the planes I purchase and how to use them in the correct sequence. The same goes for reading the charts and familiarizing myself with the proper plans and procedures.
I finish off by mentioning I want the career mode to allow me to have full control over the planning of my flights with as much detail as I can get within the game. I’m in complete agreement with you.
You can add fuel while sitting in the plane, before you start it up. That’s the earliest I have found you can add fuel with the hotkey. It doesn’t seem to work when you are outside of the plane. I used to use it for each flight. Now that they fixed the ability to add fuel using the Manage Aircraft option during the mission briefing, I just use that. The fuel costs are minimal and the fuel does seem to be tracked between missions.
Interesting bit that I’ve noticed and will test further, if you skip Cruise to get to descent, it doesn’t seem to actually remove the fuel you would have used during cruise. So you save fuel by skipping.
Adding fuel works fine for the Vision Jet while in the briefing dialog screen (before clicking start mission).
I use Simbrief and input my flight plan and Simbrief will give you a good altitude to use (it takes into account the winds aloft) and a block fuel value to use.
I no longer need to use the add fuel hotkey anymore.
Be careful, despite SimBrief, don’t forget that FS2024 now uses the real-time historical weather of the time you are flying. This can result in a flight in the simulator with completely wrong calculations!
Example:
You got home after work and planned a flight at 7pm in Simbrief. Result: Tail wind 25 knots.
And then you decide to fly at 8am in the simulator that now uses the real-time historical weather:
Obviously. But in my case, I work and get home at night… I’m not going to simulate all the flights at night just to get the most accurate weather. I want to fly during the day inside the sim.
Asobo should have thought about this, about detaching the weather from the time. Is historical weather cool? Yes, very much so, but it shouldn’t be mandatory… And there’s more: This doesn’t only affect this case, but also online flights like VATSIM and IVAO, which report wind x and the simulator says Y because you simply decided to fly at another time.
You can change the flight plan… I do it all the time. You open the EFB before entering into the flight and edit away.. just make sure you click “File Plan with ATC” and “Send Route to Avionics” before you click “Fly Now” (or whatever it says to start the mission).
Following the advice posted here, I tried to modify the flight plan and fuel, but I wasn’t able to. The EFB displayed a message indicating that it wasn’t possible to make changes at this stage. Perhaps once you obtain a specific certification in your career, you’ll be able to do it? At this early stage, it’s definitely not possible.
One slight hiccup with cancellation of IFR is you will only be given landing clearance if you are flying IFR and using an instrument approach if the airport is on IFR.
The Flight Plan issue in career mode is ruining it. Im not sure if it gets better with bigger aircraft / airports with SIDS and STARS, we will see. Im also miffed that they cant make up their mind what your altitude is in flight with STD baro or set at the baro for that area… it should be STD after transition height yet the game cant work that out!!
i am a lazy man who loves instrument approaches as they allow me to do nothing and have confidence in my plane that it wont crash, therefore i am in favor of this idea, long live this idea it is a great idea
Current situation is really not good.
On one hand we need far more missions, but seeing how bad current ones are. i won’t ask.
There should be a good number of pre-planed missions available, that do all the planing and decision making for you, for those who can’t or don’t want to do it themself. But those need to be properly created and tested, and must disappear if conditions (weather/daytime) makes them unsafe/impossible.
The randomly generated trash mission we currently have, should only contain start/endpoint, type, maybe time. Everything else, like plane used, route, stopover and so on has to be done by player.
Then at lest it’s my fault if it goes south.
Asobo please stop ignoring this post. we need to be able to create our own flight plans in career, it doesnt make sense to own an airline and not pick the routes
THIS. PLEASE. even a satellite view of the clouds taken from public sources. A simple view of the actual weather would be SO helpful. we fly blind into every mission because a majority of these airports have no weather data to check.
Reminder that there are weather layers available on the map. Press the map layers icon in the lower right, press the Advanced button, and select the layers you want accordingly. Move the time slider to the proposed mission start time to get an idea of what the sim thinks the weather will be (was, technically). Make sure to change the time to several spots throughout the proposed flight time so you see how it will change during the flight. Always give it 10 or so seconds to sync the map after you move the time slider. If you can’t see the tools or it gives you an error, back out to the main menu and go back in, it usually refreshes.
It’s not a completely useful tool, but it’s slightly better than going in blind.
