Career mode - can’t complete first mission

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

For the first and only mission available in career mode, I need to request taxi. Using the Enter key for the quick reply as prompted does not work, I’ve checked the key bindings are correct and it worked perfectly for the PPL mission.

I tried to request taxi with the comms menu but the option is not there, only an option for startup clearance, and then a blank ground services menu.

I’ve tried quitting the game and starting the mission about 10 times but it’s the same experience almost every time. One one occasion it did work but then ATC told me it’s IFR conditions and denied the taxi request. Once again I tried to select it from the comms menu but there was no taxi or clearance options available

Since this is the first and only mission available in my career I can’t choose another one and can’t progress in this one

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Started a Career in Villeneuve (Rose Field) aerodrome
  2. Finished PPL exam and passed
  3. Attempt to do the first career mission and can’t request taxi

You referring to First Flight, A scenic ride over BC with Karen
( I think all home base’s start with this, just the area is changed, but not sure )

Just thoughts:
Using a keyboard for enter?
Is it set to 2024 profile?

I have a custom keyboard profile but I can confirm both those bindings are set

I tried switching back to the default 2024 profile as well and it didn’t work either

Try restart. Reboot.
Might maybe, x fingers

I restarted this morning and found a workaround

Before boarding the passengers if you manually open the comms menu this time I saw an option to disable weather

That prevented the response about VFR denied due to IFR conditions, and then once I boarded I was able to request everything with the ATC menu and complete the mission

It looks like weather is disable for all career missions (until pilot obtain the IFR licence) but apparently, this does not apply to the first mission. But now that I remember I also had a case of “VFR denied” on one of my first 10 flights even if the weather in the MSFS2024 looked OK. So maybe this happens once in a while but this should be avoided for the first flight as user is just discovering the career mode and can not change airport on his wish

Unfortunately, the solution doesn’t work for me. I don’t see any option to disable weather in the comms menu of the toolbar. Neither does un-ticking the clouds option in the mission main screen change the issue. The weather is obviously VMC in the mission and should be in the real world (departure airfield Egelsbach, EDFE) right now as well.

The key bindings work for the dispatcher in the mission as well as for ATC in the PPL exam ride.

Any more suggestions?

It’s kind of random, I saw it once and didn’t use it, then I had to restart the mission maybe 10 times before I finally got it again. From what I recall what I did was get into the aircraft, immediately turn on all the avionics and power and then open the comms menu and find the disable weather, can’t remember if it was under Ground options or what.

The button works for everything else, such as requesting boarding, but I can’t ask for taxi clearance.

Thanks for the information. That kind of undermines my believe in deterministic machines. But I will try it.

Okay, I didn’t have the patience, so here’s what I did: I skipped from parking to the hold short line to avoid getting a penalty for taxiing without clearance. But no help, The Enter key still didn’t work and there was nothing on the comms menu. So I taxied into position on the runway without clearance (yeah, yeah, I know…) and that did the trick. Suddenly, the missed calls were made and from then on the quick replies worked as they should, on this mission and the next.
Hope this helps somebody.

Another workaround I found was sometimes it’ll let you request IFR clearance if you’re denied VFR due to weather but then that changes a lot of stuff on the flight and you’re probably subject to ATC instructions so I don’t know what kind of penalties you’ll get but it may be possible to complete it that way. Or you could try taking off IFR and cancelling it airborne

I had the same issue, same solution. In the end I still got S for the mission, so no big deal. But thanks for the tip to just violate the rule, else I could still be in the parking area trying to figure it out.

Glad it helped.

I have to add, though, that the problem occasionally reappears, now for a second time in 22 mission flights. Still no critical impact on carreer progression, fortunately.
