Proposal to Introduce More Flexibility in Flight Plan Management in Career Mode in MSFS2024:
In the current career mode, strictly adhering to the initially generated flight plan is a prerequisite for mission validation. However, this plan can sometimes become unrealistic or impractical due to changing conditions, such as weather. In these cases, the lack of flexibility prevents players from adjusting their plans, which undermines the realism of the experience.
It is essential to offer more flexibility to players in adapting their flight plans, or even allowing them to generate their own, as long as it aligns with the primary objective of the mission, which is to reach the destination. The ability to bypass irrelevant waypoints or alter the route based on external factors, like weather, would be a step toward a more realistic flight experience.
However, in order to maintain realism and rigor, this flexibility should not come at the expense of safety or navigation procedures. Ideally, the simulator should be able to assess whether these adjustments have adhered to safety and navigation standards, and the mission should be validated if the primary objective is met. On the other hand, the experience gained and the final score should be impacted by how these adjustments are made, considering the adherence to procedures during the flight plan adaptation.
This approach would not only preserve the player’s freedom of action but also encourage a realistic and disciplined approach, where adapting the flight plan is possible, but respecting procedures remains crucial to maximizing the mission’s experience and rewards.
EDIT : Of course, this post mainly concerns “point A to point B missions”, such as passenger or freight transport.
