this will be a must buy!
Wow good to know! Can’t wait to see it ![]()
Looks great!
Early sample of a chart from the fully custom LORAN-A simulation.
As far as I am aware, this will be the first time LORAN has been modelled in flight sim.
How it works
Will this also come to msfs2020 on Xbox ?
Yes. It will be available for all MSFS2024 platforms.
Any release date? For this masterpiece
Any estimation of release for us please? (more or less is OK)
Can’t offer any estimate right now unfortunately, as ultimately it is a one person development. Work is definitely ensuing though, and we’ll continue to keep you updated as things progress.
Necro reply because I was curious about the status of this.
I had no idea they actually used LORAN on aircraft. I know about it and what it is but I thought it was only used by boats.
Before GPS many aircraft used Loran. Particularly in the 40’s they used Loran A and later Loran C in 50’s/60’s.
id like to know how development is goin
Hi all, hope everybody is well, and Happy New Year!
Thought I’d give a brief update.
Development is still ensuing, particularly on some of the navigation systems. I’d expect Chris will bring you up to speed as and when he feels they’re developed enough for a showcase.
As for now, we’ll give you a little something to sink your teeth into.
- I think somebody was feeling a little too festive…
Many thanks, N.
You forgot the Christmas lights
. Any possibility of a slightly lighter picture please.
In terms of natural light, this is unfortunately something you’re going to have to get used to. The Comet cockpit is known for being quite dark!
I had a Loran receiver in the ‘73 Piper Challenger (Cherokee) I used to own a share of. I never used it, but, it was there… ![]()
Pipers I often fly seem to have old doodads, never came across that though! Very cool.
Very happy to hear about the Comet! This era of aircraft are amazing. Will we have the option to use modern GPS Nav etc as well?
Will the Comet feature any engine damage? I always find it a little dissapointing that with the big aircraft you can seemingly firewall them from start and have no damage, when in reality with these early jets it’s a bit of a work.
Would be cool to eventually get a Nimrod in the future since it’s a not too distant cousin.
I do know for a fact that there will be electronic failures of some kind, bulb failures and such. But I unfortunately cannot comment on engine damage at this stage.
An optional GPS *will* be included as a suite variant. Whilst CAS is proud of being the first developer in Microsoft Flight Simulator history to simulate LORAN (we think.), we also respect that type of navigation isn’t for everybody.
We really want as wide of an audience to enjoy the Comet as possible, without having to compromise on either side.
Many thanks, N.
