Cessna 172 Classic AP issue with ROL mode?

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

I am in MSFS 2024 learning to fly the Cessna 172 Classic, so I am watching a bunch of tutorials in Youtube. The issue is with the Autopilot of the Classic version, NOT the G1000 one. In all the tutorials when engaging the AP it goes to autolovel mode (leveling the plane, ROL mode) and in the left side of the AP module appear a “ROL” indication (ROL mode). My issue is when I engage the AP instead of autoleveling the plane it mantain the roll as it was when engaged, if it was leveled it will keep it leveled but if it was rolled Xº it will keep the plane rolled those Xº.

Also there is no “ROL” indication in the module, when you press the Heading mode it appear a “HDG” indication, but when pressed again or after engage the AP there is no “ROL” indication in the module.

I am not sure if this is a bug, or maybe this was a modification made after all those tutorials because maybe is this the way it really works?, no idea.

That’s the way mine works too. I don’t believe it’s a bug. It maintains whatever bank and climb angle you are in at the time it is engaged.

ROL roll and PIT pitch modes are not strictly selectable auto pilot modes. They are default modes if you turn on FD (flight director) and enable AP without selecting a pitch (FLC/IAS/VS) or roll (HDG/NAV) mode.

I think, if you want to get back to the default ROL or PIT you need to turn off the flight director and turn it back on again.

Some of these modes depend slightly on the avionics of the particular plane, so there are differences from plane to plane.

Agree with above comments, this is the way autopilot works once AP is engaged for the 1st time. If you want to have the plane follow the heading bug & autolevel then you need to engage respectively HDG & ALT.

Moved to User Support Hub since not a bug.
