Cessna 172 NAV button not Working?

Maybe since the last “update”? Not sure…but I can turn on autoplilot on the 172 and heading or alt works, but I hit the NAV button with a flight plan showing in the in-flight map and the plane does not respond. Can’t get it to follow the flight path. Anybody else see this bug?

Are you using the NXi from the Marketplace?

I have not purchased any from the Marketplace. I am using default planes. They should work.

It’s free. You should give it a try.

I am not sure about this, it might be pilot error, but it seems like you need to be close to the flight plan when hitting the NAV button. If you are too far off nothing happens. Strange thing is that I noticed this only the past 2 or 3 months, earlier it worked as I expected. Could be I was near enough to the FP though.
Around the same time I cannot add POI in between departure and arrival in the FP when in World map, but sometimes out of the blue I can ADD these POI’s. I don’t know why or when the happens or not.

The nxi G1000 download fixed things. Thank you for the suggestion!

Some time ago (maybe 6 months) there was a bug with the NAV button on the autopilot with the C172. When you press it, either didn’t work or went into a crash to desktop. Every since I don’t use it. But it sounds like this part of the autopilot that still doesn’t work.

TL:DR, the autopilot does not work with GPS at all in the C172 after SU5.

I was flying the default 172 last night (no 3rd party content enabled) and with the CDI set to GPS, the auto pilot will turn towards the GPS flight path indicated on the moving map display when first activated, but while on route to intercept the path, the heading and deflection indicator on the CDI never changes, even as the aircraft passes over the GPS path. Except for the initial turn upon activation of the AP, it ignores the CDI and GPS completely after that. The CDI also does not point towards the destination or next waypoint in the flight plan, and seems to point in whatever random direction it feels like.

You need to hit the nav/gps selection button in centre top of panel…

Huh? There was a “Nav/GPS” switch in past MS sims, but there is none in these planes that I can see.
In any case, the nxi G10000 Garmin works in this dept but I had to get going in the right direction and pretty close to the correct flight path. If you are heading in the opposite direction and hit NAV, the GPS doesn’t seem to know to turn the aircraft around, even with the nxi fix.

Do you mean if you are on the magenta track but heading in the opposite direction, or if you are off the magenta track?

If you are not near the track the autopilot GPS mode is not supposed to take you back to the track. The reason is, in brief, that there is no well-defined track to take you from your present off-track position back to the track, and the autopilot should not just steer you on some random shortest path back to your track since that random path could go straight through a mountain. Therefore you are supposed to select that path back to your track yourself using heading mode, presumably after checking for the presence of mountains, restricted airspace, or other impediments to having a good day. So the NXi has that correct. Maybe you already had that figured out in which case this comment is for the audience.

If you are on the track but going in the opposite direction I don’t actually know what is supposed to happen, would have to go look in the manuals… But I am not surprised if that does not work.

@FlyingBear01 is correct. If you want to see some more info on this correct response, check out Working Title G1000 NXi Discussion Thread - #1156 by GoFasterS4

Look at responses 1156-1159.

At least in FMC equipped aircraft you usually get an ‘not on intercept heading’ message.

The Mode selector in the G1000 - that is a switch in the steem gauge version - is to be found at the bottom row of the PFD and called CDI. That toggles between NAV and GPS mode in the G1000.
