Cessna 172S Electrical System Question

I’m trying to get a basic understanding of the 172S electrical system.

Avionics Bus 1 seems to impact the fan noise but I can’t tell what else it’s controlling. There appears to be an 11 amp draw on it. But everything still seems to function.

Avionics Bus 2 obviously controls the second screen, but if I go by the breakers the transponder also seems to be on that. However, the transponder still functions when the switch is off.

Is ESS basically an unswitchable backup/secondary bus? It looks like it backs up the breakers for most of Avionics Bus 1

I’m assuming you’re referring to a base/deluxe/premium version of the sim aircraft.

You’re going to find that for many of the aircraft, save for a select few of premium ones, that the stock electrical systems are in need of improvement.

A number of aircraft have community-based improvement mods. I don’t know about the C172. I sim mainly on Xbox and I can’t use mods (yet), so I can’t give you too much data on them.

Just as an aside note, if you want to see how an actual 172S electrical system is configured, take a look at the link below.

It’s given me a new appreciation for the sim. Even if the electrical systems are off, the coding/programming is all there. You can even see the impacts on amperage from most devices, including staring the engine.

I got an E6B for Christmas!

Oh wow, that is a cool one! you can even pull CBs and see what is happening. thanks for that

Haha, do peoples really still use them? I mean, i have one too, but honestly, im always using the digital one now… :yum:

However, i heard about flight schools who put them on a cord and the studens have to wear them around the neck the whole time… LOL

I’m enjoying the exercise of checking what the GPS is telling me. :grinning:

Thanks!!! Its amazing.

Yup we do. There‘s one in our C172 and in the HK36. It never fails.
