Cessna 208B: Air Speed Indicator stopped working mid-flight

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: The Air Speed Indicator stopped working mid-flight. I observed this twice when 2-3 hours in flight. All three ASI stopped.
Shortly before the landing the ASIs come to life again.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue: Cessna 208B

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
I never installed any community mods or add-ons.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? twice - during different career mode missions (e.g. medium cargo LHFH → UKDO)

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Use Cessna 208B to fly career mode medium cargo missions.
  2. Sometimes after some time, the ASI stopped working.

Do you remember if your Pitot Heat was on or off? At -9 Celcius it could be an icing effect (Ram Air + Drain blockage)

Good point.
Honestly speaking: until now I did not take care about this. I will enable this for future flights and check.

My assumption was that it is a problem in the application / simulation because the “7” of the “137” vanished - which should not happen even if the pitot is icy.

Yeah that looks like a UI bug, but the G1000 tape and standby gauges in the plane look like they are displaying correctly (even though it may be frozen).

The fact that you said they come back to life shortly before landing makes it really seem like the icing effect in the game, because once you get back down to a lower altitude (warmer) the ice will usually start to melt.

ICE

You were correct: it’s frozen.
After enabling heating / fluid control the air speed indication start working again.

What confuses me is, that a lot of things are done automatically (e.g. during CRTL-E at the beginning of the flight), but some important ones are not.
The things I learned until now (partially the hard way) are that the following things must be done manually:

  1. Pre-flight fuel check (and add fuel in most longer career missions)
  2. de-icing (new one for me)
  3. flight level adjustments before flight
  4. approach (“automatically” only rarely available)
