[Cessna C172] Nav Radios not Picking up ILS

Anyone else having issues with the C172. The Nav radios don’t seem to pickup on the ILS. Or is this because the west server got borrowed this passed week?

Ya gotta be on green needles, press your CID softkey at the bottom of the PFD.

It makes no difference. I changed the Screenshot in my post.

I’m a bit slow with the G1000, but do you have the approach loaded? It doesn’t look like there’s a next waypoint at the top of either of the flight displays. Not sure the G1000 would pick up the ILS automatically without the approach loaded even if you have the frequency tuned. It’s also slant range distance; not sure how far you are from the field but it looks like you’re at about 1400 feet AGL. Might not be close/high enough to pick it up.

I don’t think this question is appropriate for the beta discussion, but you’re in the Ahwatukee area, which is over 10nm away from and abeam the localizer antenna. Most of the sim navaids have reception distances that are coded to the standard service volumes (SSV), which you’re way outside of. Straight from the AIM:

Note that the SSVs don’t predict hard and fast reception in the real world - they’re more of a guarantee, and there are exceptions. But suffice it to say when I shoot ILS approaches at my local airport irl, I don’t pick the localizer up until I’m pretty close to the SSV.

I fly this everyday for the past 6 years and this is the first time I’m not able to pickup the ILS. Typically as long as you are within 15 miles of the station your able to pick it up regardless.

Maybe the changed it in the latest update.

Great explanation of how they work though!

By the way I don’t pick it up at all now.

Could be. Good to know that this is a difference for you - I take back the beta comment. @Bishop398 from Working Title was talking about refining the reception distances for navaids in the latest navdata update, but I don’t know if that would affect this. Worth investigating.

But if you’re not picking it up at all… sounds like a different issue altogether. Can you test in a different airplane? That would differentiate whether it’s the plane or the data.

I am unable to reproduce this. I am able to receive the ILS up to 28NM out along the beam. Do you have a scenery installed for KPHX by any chance?

I think the question is more regarding reception than AP steering. As long as he’s in green needles and tuned (which he is) he should be getting the DME (as long as service volume isn’t a factor, which it sounds like it shouldn’t be).

But for other folks trying to repeat the results, put the aircraft at the same position: 2500’ MSL 10nm due (true) south of the airport. Basically on a very, very wide downwind.

I made it to 28NM DME while doing this before signal loss, so the same result as the along-beam test.

Yea thats was it. I forgot to disable it after a reload this morning.

Now if Asobo would just let me delete it. :frowning:

If someone could mark this as the solution and move out of the beta section. Thanks!

Done! :slightly_smiling_face:

Servers are not related at all with aircraft/avioncs/navdata/scenery, they are just related to multiplayers sessions.
