I am really enjoying the Skyward Simulations C680 Sovereign. However, (and this is something I encountered once before in a payware plane) my hardware (Thrustmaster Joystick and Throttle separates) bindings for taxi or landing lights do nothing. I have to switch to my overhead panel view and use the mouse to activate them. They bindings work on my other aircraft, pretty universally. We are not talknig about esoteric or custom functions- we’re talkiing about taxi and landing lights! Why would a developer not design them to work like 99% of previous aircraft addons and all default planes? This is very annoying.
Yes, I checked my controls settings and the bindings show up as they should…they just do nothing with the C680.
This kind of user-unfriendly design turns me off to a developer, whch is a shame because the actual plane is excellent.
I don’t mind using a mouse on a switch which I don’t often need during a flight and if the lights switches weren’t so far (on the overhead panel) from my main view it would be a little less hassle.
Is there a solution? (And, no, I’m not going to buy more sophisticated hardware and incorporate 3rd party software just to deal with 2 switches that should bind normally.)
If you don’t want to budge from your stance on using an external app then no solution with the limited in Sim control bindings. Microsoft do not enforce use of standard variables on developers and allow them to do what they want with the use of the SDK. This means that despite their function these items become custom. This is an all too common complaint but can be resolved for this and any other future requirements by using an external app.
I hear you. And this is one of those rare occasions where I (we) can’t blame Microsoft or Asobo.
Addon developers should realize, and care, that their plane is going to be more cumbersome to use and that the vast majority of users are not going to be able to use their hardware for a very common binding.
Like I said, I can understand it if the function of the switch in the cockpit is unique, rare (maybe very vintage ?) or specialized . But, in this case, It’s just the standard landing and taxi lights. Come on, developers, anyone smart and code-savy enough to design such an amazing plane can surely code it to have those lights bind normally, to default control options.
It’s not the worst thing that could happen, for sure, and for now I’ll just switch views and use the mouse for those switches because I’m too lazy to go through starting over with binding everything for just one plane (out of the dozen that I regularly use).
I don’t know for sure on this one but developers would generally say that the built in functionality doesn’t do what they want so they do what they want with custom functionality. I hear you though it’s a poor situation. It would be a lot easier if the built in sim binding system could just provide access to custom stuff the dev implements. The external apps can do it so it’s clearly possible. This is the part that Microsoft are culpable for.
I hate Discord but I bit the bullet and hoped the developer (John) would see my post there. He responded very quickly, said that it would be a fix in the next update, and he thanked me for bringing it to his attention. This is impressive and, unfortunately, not always typical, and it reinforces my view that other developers should not make any COMMON/BASIC aircraft function require anything outside of the default choices in the 2024 Controls menu.
I’ll say again that this is an excellent biz jet that flies beautifully, both hand-flying and instrument flying. I will keep an eye on any future offers from them.
I only have one problem left with the C680. It is a great biz jet and with the updates, which the developer has been really quick with, it does everything well.
When taking off or landing, and not on every flight I believe, at a certain speed the rudder axis (I am using a joiystick, not pedals) will not steer to the right. The plane veers left and I cannot correct it. I have my twist axis bound to both rudder and nose wheel, just to be safe, and it has no issues with other planes (including the Citation, Longitude, etc…).
There are no binding conflicts (and if there were, other planes would exhibit this). I’m wondering if there is a special system that prevents veering at high speed but, if so, why would it only happen in one direction?
I’ll post this on their Discord as well, but if anyone knows what is causing this it will be much appreciated.
