Cessna Citation Longitude has No Elevator Control

Alright, let me start off by saying that the default state of this aircraft is abysmal at best, as with most medium sized aircraft, jerking randomly left and right, violently rolling over at lower altitudes.

However I’ve recently run into an issue I simply cannot explain, and can’t seem to find anyone else talking about it.

The Citation Longitude, for me, has absolutely no pitch control anymore. At first I thought maybe it was just stiff controls or maybe a hydraulic line had been somehow shut off, but after checking all systems, testing my Logitech Attack 3D Pro joystick several times, and resetting all keybinds and axis’, the aircraft is still completely unflyable.

The first time I noticed this issue was on final to Hilo International Airport in Hawaii. I’d noticed some difficulty taking the plane off the ground, it was very hesitant to nose up. Flicked AP on and had no real issues the majority of the flight.

I started on final, put my gear out and gradually increased flaps, then I went to do my manual landing procedure. I noticed I was a bit high, so I went to nose down, and nothing happened. I gradually increased nose down pressure, until I was pushing full nose down, with zero reaction from the plane. Out of desperation I pulled the stick back, full nose up, still no input reaction from the aircraft. I then rolled left and right, and got an expected reaction.

The airplane has rudder control, aileron control, but absolutely zero elevator control. I had no issues with the plane the first time I flew it, of course, that was in September, 2020, this happened in May, 2021. I attempted to find a fix online, downloaded a user patch which is meant to make the aircraft more true to life and fix problems with it, and that did nothing. Last night I tried again with a new version, and now the aircraft is gone from my list and I can’t bring it back.

I’ve only had this type of issue with one other plane, the Cessna C152, partially the same problem, no nose up, but nose down worked as well as rudder and aileron.

I have seen no one else talking about this, so I assume no one else has the issue, or the plane is relatively unpopular in the sim.

For a plane you have to essentially pay $120 for, you’d think they’d make it at the least flyable.

Thanks for reading and any future responses or suggestions.

I had a very similar issue recently with the Arrow III. May not fix your issue but it fixed mine. Do you happen to have any switches on your throttle or yoke turning on A/P attitude or Altitude hold? if so, turn off the switch, or disable it in the controls.

In my case, The JF Arrow III didn’t want to take off at all, the trim wheel wouldn’t respond to commands, but it did vibrate a bit. I had attitude/altitude hold on a switch and it was directing the aircraft to hold altitude with the switch on.. When I turned the switch off, the problem was fixed.

Edit: Okay, so no, deleting and reinstalling the aircraft did NOT fix the issue. However, when spawning the aircraft midair, it gives you control of the elevators, when you spawn on ground, cold start, you have no pitch control. This is actually embarrassing that this is an issue..

I do not, I don’t bind any AP controls, aside from “Z” to switch AP Master off/on.

After several tries in troubleshooting, I found simply deleting the aircraft via the Content Manager, and reinstalling it from the Content Manager fixed the issue. Not sure if that’ll work for other aircraft, but it might.

The aircraft is still extremely hard to control on takeoff and landing, not sure why but the CJ4, King Air, and Longitude all suffer from this extreme touchiness at low altitude. Not to mention the random rolling hard left and right.. but that’s been talked about quite a bit, still not sure why it does that..

Okay, so, interesting development.

Currently flying at FL440 to Reno Nevada, and I’ve just now noticed my aircraft, a repaint, is very matte in appearance, no shine or smoothness to the body.

This is interesting because when I first reinstalled the airplane, see above comment, the plane had a noticeable sheen to the body, and was properly shiny..

I wonder if the two are connected in some way. I’m going to test it further by first spawning midair, to see if I regain pitch control, if not, I’ll reinstall, test from cold start, and see if this is the issue.

I’m very confused as to why this would be a “fix” to begin with. But if that’s the case then the airplane needs to be deleted and reinstalled before every flight with it..

Will keep this thread updated, in the meantime, feel free to speculate, I am honestly desperate to get this plane to fly properly.

You might have a bad or corrupt install. Or maybe one of the liveries is causing an issue. Remove all Longitude liveries and try again. Also, do you have any other mods installed?

Okay, I just tested it.

The airplane works perfectly fine when I reinstall it. But after the first flight, it breaks again.

Telltale sign: if the aircraft is very flat in it’s lighting, ie; reflections, shadows, its broke.

If the aircraft looks shiny and normal, it works.

I have no performance mods installed, I only have repaints for the aircraft. Gonna delete the repaints quick and see if that works.

Alright, so, I’ve found out it was this specific repaint that was causing the issue: https://flightsim.to/file/4028/citation-longitude-air-canada-rouge

I’m not sure why repaints of all things that only change textures break an entire airplane, but, sheesh..

Because some Liveries include their own aircraft.cfg files. If improperly written or having a typo of sorts, can cause the problem you originally described.

Lesson being: step one is to remove ALL customizations and get to a vanilla sim. That solves almost 85 percent of problems first time.
