Changing the time

Hi, I would like to change the time when the sim starts. I am drawing a blank on how to do this. If I am in New York and I start my game on the flight map it will always show a different time. Is that because asobo is in France and it defaults to their local time? I would like it to start at my local time or the system time which is the same thing. How can I do this? thanks

I think they sim defaults to your local time, at your location. Don’t think it’s possible to change the default behaviour.
You can always change the time from the time/weather menu though (as long as you’re not on ‘live players’ multiplayer mode, or live time/weather settings).

Right upper edge > flight conditions.

There you can adjust the weather and time.

If for some reason you start the flight at the wrong time. You can go to the top menu bar and look for the weather options. The click on the LIVE button to reset the time to the current time.

I have never been able to get FS2020 to start at any fixed time.

Tried Flight Conditions and Preset and Custom.
Even created a new personal Custom.

Nothing works for time. Clouds, maybe. I only fly with clear skies.

It just randomly starts with a random time.

see that’s the thing, I fly with live traffic and weather and I thought the sim would default to my local time but it doesn’t .I can change it each time but it’s easier just starting at my local time. I also have the problem when I select the time in the upper right box it doesn’t show the same time on the world map.

if you’re flying with live time/weather it should default to your local time at your location. If you then select an airport on the other side of the planet, of course it won’t be your local time anymore. It won’t carry over your local time to the other side of the planet.

Not sure, but I think that you need to select your point of departure first and afterwards the time.

Just use Live Multiplayer mode. You won’t be able to change the time and the weather, but it will always be on the current live time based on the location you fly in.

Same for me.

Also, I thought that Preset or Custom would give you the time
that you select there for any future flights.

I always want to fly at 1:00 PM unless I want to change it for particular flight.

this thread tells a couple of stories
explains a lot about some of the complaints when even the most intuitive and self-explanatory things need explaining

I would appreciate it if you would explain how to do it.

Sorry, but it is not intuitive or self explanatory to me.
I have tried many times but cannot figure it out.

You’re kinda right. It actually starts at the current Zulu (or UTC, whichever you prefer) time, which translates into the current time wherever you’re located. If you have Live weather as your default, you’ll see this. If I start a to set up a flight here in NC at 4PM, the weather thumbnail will show that it’s dark until I set an arrival or departure point, then it resets to the local time of that point.

It is 12:29 AM EST USA. (and my computers time)

Start FS2020.
Time at bottom of screen displays - 4:02 AM (4:02 AM UTC).
Select a FROM airport , KJFK, New York
Time at bottom of screen displays - 12:01 AM (4:01 AM UTC).

This is not intuitive or self explanatory to me.

Is the Live button active on the custom weather panel? Pressing the LIVE button will reset your sim time to your current time. However, it doesn’t seem to flow at the same time either. For example, if you star the sim the first time, usually it’ll apply to the current time, but when you ALT Tab or do something else while the sim runs the background, the time doesn’t flow with real time, and it tends to show the time when you start the sim the first time. All you need to do is go to the Flight conditions, under Weather preset, and press the LIVE button to sync the sim time with your current real time. But it still doesn’t flow.

Like I said in my previous posts, if you set your Flight Conditions to Live Multiplayer, it’ll always be current time, even though you can’t change the time or weather.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that it chooses a different time from live time. I wonder, if you have live weather selected, maybe it’s switching to the latest local metar time for your location? Just a total guess. It does seem to be a half hour off a lot.

Either that, or it’s choosing the time you started the sim?

It start at local time for me if I use Live Weather, but the clock in the aircraft will show the time in UTC.

I usually use the Preset option and there select the live weather and time.
I also noticed that if I don’t change anything, the sim seems to be off by about half an hour to the past, so I always have to press the “live” button beneath the time slider to shift it to the current UTC time.
But thats basically it, I don’t have such huge deviations, but maybe it’s because I don’t have a big difference to UTC opposed to users in the US
?

Well the sim always shows UTC time since you can’t look at a world map and have local time displayed. The sim doesn’t know where you are at this point and thus just shows the UTC time.

Once you select a location, the sim will show you the local time at that airport as well as UTC.
The fact that you want to depart from an airport in your timezone is a very narrow special case considering you’ve got the whole world available to you.
In any case, in your example it is ALL the same time (except the 1min difference), so the display is correct.

That’s how aviation works, almost everything uses UTC/zulu time. Once you get used to it, you’ll not want to miss it.

About a half hour is what I usually see, too. Doesn’t bother me. I only noticed it. I’m on east coast US time.
