This is the way I have solved the problem “checking for updates”.
Due to a blackout due to a power failure in my house during update 1.13.17.0, when I started my PC again and wanted to continue with the process, the fatal message appeared and there was no way to start the game, except by cutting the internet connection and start in offline mode.
Currently I don’t have an unlimited internet connection and I only have 200Gb of data on my mobile phone, so I can’t waste any more data reinstalling FS2020 again (I have the “box” version with a lot of DVDs) and then doing the updates.
I searched the forums and none of the procedures described worked for me, so I spent a few hours to find the following solution:
Find the OneStore folder where FS2020 content is hosted. In my case it is:
C: \ Users \ luisr \ AppData \ Local \ MSFSPackages \ Official \ OneStore
From that folder I moved to another all those that were created on the date when the power outage occurred.
One of these folders was “fs-base-cgl”.
When starting FS2020, the message “checking for updates” came out for just a few seconds and then a message appeared indicating that an update was available. Problem solved. But this update was 84Gb and I didn’t want to download that much data.
I accepted the installation and cancelled it after a minute.
Then I returned the “fs-base-cgl” folder to its original location and rebooted FS2020.
The update message available again, but 0Mb, so I accepted and immediately had the FS2020 fully operational.
However I wanted to install the new UK content and during the installation there was another power outage, so again I got the message “checking for updates”.
In this case, I deleted the last folders that had been created in the OneStore folder corresponding to the UK content and again FS2020 started without problems.
I hope it helps you and works also in the Steam and Microsoft Store versions.
See you flying.
Luis.
