Chichen Itza and the Pyramid of Kukulkan, Mexico

The ancient compound at Chichen Itza, amazingly well modeled in the sim.
Take off from from Old Chichen Itza airport, MM74. Climb to 500 ft and turn South and the ancient site unfolds before you, dominated by the great Pyramid of Kukulcan (Quetzalcoatl).

The strip next to it doesn’t have an airport marker, but is perfectly usable.

Four years later…and in MSFS 2024.
I’m on a trip around the Yucatan Peninsula, visiting the Mayan ruins, though I expect Chichen Itza will be the only one modeled.

I set off from Manuel Crescencio Rejon (MMMD), and after a short detour 35 NM to the south to check out the ruins at Uxmal - which were rendered as apartments - made the 71NM flight to Old Chichen Itzá Airport (MM74).

En-route, the live weather turned nasty - heavy rain, thunder & lightning, with brief interludes where one could get one’s bearings. The skies over the site were cloudy but clear:

but the visibility on approach to the airport just a half NM away was appalling:

Of course, no sooner do I touch down than the rain stops. My passengers - who paid for this sightseeing trip - curiously don’t want to leave the aircraft:

I have no such difficulty, and after a short walk though thick jungle, I “discover” the ancient ruins:

The rendering of these monuments in MSFS is nowhere near as good as seeing them in real life (but not that bad for a flight simulator):

On the plus side, you’ll have the site all to yourself:

Now for the short walk back to the airport. Hmm… I think this is the way? These trees in the jungle all look the same to me:
