Before Update 5, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro had a highly detailed custom 3D model that looked extremely impressive during VFR flights over the city. The statue had clearly defined shapes, sharp details and a much more realistic appearance that made it stand out as one of the most iconic landmarks in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
After Update 5, the original detailed model appears to have been replaced or heavily simplified. Currently, the monument often looks blurry and lacks the visual quality it previously had, especially when viewed at close range.
Considering that Christ the Redeemer is one of the most famous landmarks in the world and one of the main visual references of Rio de Janeiro, it would be great to see the original high-quality model restored or further improved in a future update.
A more detailed version of the statue would greatly enhance immersion for VFR flights around Rio de Janeiro and make one of the world’s most iconic locations look as impressive as it deserves in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Yes, that was my first impression too, it looks like the statue (and building under it) is being ‘photogrametry-ized’ somehow. I don’t have FS2024, so I can’t check this myself, but as a troubleshooting step and test I wonder if turning off photogrametry in FS2024 changes how this statue looks.
I have the same issue and it seems to be the same problem as with the Griffith Observertory in Los Angeles. The handcrafted Redeemer and the handcraftet Griffith Observatory are not any more visible. Only in Photogrammetry mode, bust a lot worse. Also in San Francisco I have the same problem with the Coit Tower and Alcatraz. Furthermore the handcrafted Centraal Station in Amsterdam is not showing up. I guess a lot more POIS are affected. Please report all affected POIS.
Another one is the Burj al Arab in Dubai… However, it shows up only with the inibuilds scenery, but not anymore with the native Microsoft scenery…
Please report all missing POIS that you find here. It seems to be a general big issue !
If anybody has a solution, please post it. Otherwise I request Microsoft to look after it in a short matter of time please. Thanks a lot.
True, I also saw that the observatory in Los Angeles only has the photogrammetry texture. So it really could be a widespread issue with many points that were previously modeled and have now disappeared. I hope Microsoft can fix this.
The original handcrafted model is still in the sim. It’s easy enough to add back with the SDK & overwrite the blobby photogrammetry. Maybe I will publish it after a little finessing and if an official fix starts to look like it wont arrive.
I recently started playing and it really made me mad how one of the world most famous landmark is completely invisible 2 years after the release of the game
