I ran out of fuel at cruise at FL310. I threw some more fuel in the tanks so we’re good there, however how do you do an engine relight in fight?
I tried pressing the start button but it didn’t do anything. I looked at the checklists but there is no engine out. Thanks for any help
The quick way is Ctrl + E.
I would presume that you use the same procedure as on the ground, i.e. APU start, wait for N2 then introduce fuel etc. Have no idea of the RW procedures, but they’re probably not programmed in anyway.
Are both engines out or just one?
Both you definitely need to start the APU first and make sure that bleed air is on.
If you have one running there is a cross bleed start in the PDF manual on the FlighFX website. I haven’t tried it though
you shouldn’t need the APU as the airspeed will windmill the engine fast enough at that altitude. plus having to start up the APU and wait for that is not a good emergency process if you have engines out
I’m not a jet engine expert, and I’m happy to be corrected by someone who is. But I wouldn’t think airflow alone is going to be enough to spin up the compressor from a stopped engine - of course we’re talking about real life here.
There may be a difference between what can be done real world and what is modeled in this particular piece of software.
In theory if you can windmill the engine up to about 10% N2 you can relight without APU or crossbleed.
it definitely is. there’s a relight “envelope” for each type of engine where the IAS needs to be high enough to get something like 15-25% N2, no need for APU. of course if you’re at very high altitude you might need to dive 
Below FL350, assuming you can maintain 250 KIAS or greater and N2 => 10 percent,
Load Shed Switch to Override - needed for Fuel Boost otherwise no relight possible
A AUX HYD PUMP On
HYD PUMP A and B Switches - UNLOAD
Airspeed > 250 KIAS
Throttles to Cutoff (resets FADEC logic)
IGN to NORM or ON
This is a windmill restart. The HYD PUMPS are unloaded to assist the mechanical windmill aspects of the turbofans.
Caution: Unloading the HYD PUMPs at high altitude may result in a loss of HYD PRESS after relight because they are not primed. Restore A HYD first by switching A AUX to ON which will prime that side of the system and restart HYD PRESS service. Restore B the same way, but you may need to be at a lower altitude before it can recover.
Engine restarts using windmilling will be slow by nature, but as long as N2 is increasing consistently and ITT fluctuations remain within 500-700 C, you can continue this relight.
These are operational notes from our O/Os. I have not personally tried this in our simulation.

There is a separate procedure to relight below FL310 with the APU. Basically it follows the Cold & Dark Normal Engine Start process.
thanks! i will give this a try. What happened was while the sim was paused, it continued to use fuel and eventually flamed out when empty. I used the kneepad to throw some more fuel in, however I still needed to relight the engines. I put the plane into a shallow dive with throttle at idle and increased ias to around 300kts but the engines did not relight, so I knew I was either missing some steps or this wasn’t simulated.
On the ground is it possible to use a start cart?
Don’t think so, at least I haven’t seen anywhere or how to connect one. You can, of course, use a Ground Power Unit
There is a panel on the FFX plane but there is no latch and I also didnt see any option in the EFB or in the docs. Ill have to see if I can even call the start cart through ATC.
I know its kind of moot. There are no failures so the APU will always work.
