Does changing volumetric clouds from high to ultra effect performance much? What does it do?
It will give you a little boost. Maybe 5 to 6fps

Yes, for me that’s how it went. You won’t notice it unless you’re flying with a lot of clouds.

The higher the setting the higher the resolution on the clouds. It’s worth changing if you like flying with lots of clouds. However, you will notice a difference in quality if you go lower than high.

Ok well I ordered another 16GB of RAM hoping I can go from high to ultra
I don’t think an extra 16gb of RAM will help. This sim chews up your graphics card VRAM which is why the high end graphics folks went to high end graphics card with lots of VRAM.
My graphics card has 8 GB VRAM. How much more do I need to fly on high settings? I’ve got dev mode up. Shows gpu budget 7320. I’m using about 3800.
I am flying 8gb vram in “ultra” and a 5k display. No problem anywhere so far. I have turned off all traffic, cars, boats, ships, planes… etc.
