Cloud removal on the world map is also removing cloud in-game with Live Weather

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: I believe it is a feature that cloud cover on the world map gets ‘removed’ as you zoom in to give you visibility of the airport and surrounding area. However I am seeing this behaviour is also removing the actual cloud cover in-game and not only on the world map.

Example of LOWS airport:

Current conditions are rain and overcast cloud as per the current satellite imagry:

On the world map, the cloud cover correctly shows as overcast over Salzburg LOWS area:

As you zoom in, the cloud cover gets removed:

As you load in, the cloud cover remains removed as you can see by the stark cutoff line in the clouds:

Once loaded in you can see the cloud cover does not get restored and lots of cloud is missing:

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Observe an airport on world map with overcast or lots of clouds

  2. Zoom in and notice cloud is removed on world map

  3. Load in and observe removed cloud cover is not restored in-game.

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

I don’t have time to add screenshots from Windy and MSFS 2024 right now, but I can definitely confirm this bug.

I tested my system (components listed in my profile) today.
I reverted back to nVidia driver 577.00 as the latest driver was a no go for me.

Free Flight - Bonanza G36 Improvement Project

Interestingly, my results were that the cloud cover in the world map did NOT disappear when I zoomed into KSEZ. When I started the flight on the ramp the clouds looked exactly as expected.
Sorry, I didn’t capture a live camera view.

Example today of EINN airport.

Actual cloud satellite cover shows widespread overcast:

Cloud cover on world map appears to confirm this:

As you zoom in a lot of cloud cover is removed:

When you load in the cloud cover that got removed on the world map is not restored and blue sky opens up around aircraft which shouldn’t be the case:

It’s hard to compare the density of cloud cover over the entirety of Ireland with the cloud cover as shown in a zoomed in view of the area around the airport.

Seems to me the bug being reported is that as you zoom in the clouds on the World Map disappear completely (by design) and also disappear completely in the flight (bug).

We know the weather (especially cloud) depictions in the sim needs a lot of work. Seems to me that’s what you’re seeing. It would help to know what the METAR was at EINN when you grabbed those screenshots.

This overcast cloud sat over Ireland is higher than the ceilometer of the meter detection so is not being reported by the METAR, which is why I didn’t include it. In this case I believe this cloud cover should be being driven by meteoblue’s data, from GRIB for example.

If OP added screenshots from the time when he made the post, then the METAR was either this one

or this one
