On virtually all settings (currently running on high), clouds closer to the aircraft seem to be fine. Those further away and, more often than not, larger cumulonimbus formations tend to be the ones that are very grainy in my experience. As I fly towards these though, they tend to smooth themselves out.
Bump!
Hi guys, my first post in this forum.
Time to share my situation.
2080Ti, 1440p monitor, all is set to ultra. No AA with Nvidia, tried some things with the cfg file but no luck.
You can play with settings in Nvidia Control Panel. Just make a note of what you do in case it all goes wrong
Oh wow that is rather grainy. Would have thought the 2080Ti would have handled it a bit better than that. You keeping drivers updated?
Itâs not just clouds that can be grainy. I see grain in shadows, reflections, even around the landing gear. Something with the rendering engine and how it renders transparency.
You have anti aliasing disabled? You definitely want it. It can help with issues like that.
Sorry guys, I probably explained myself badly. Flight Simulator AA is obviously on and on TAA, Nvidiaâs panel AA is disabled. As you advised me I will try some different settings.
All my drivers are up to date.
I can tell you that in general a high sharpness value worsens the situation, I have completely deactivated it on my monitor (attention, not on windows, but on the monitor) and the situation has improved. But the problem remains
Theres an issue I know some people are experiencing when flying in MSFS 2020. Some of the textures seem to come out grainy and arenât nice to look at. I know its not fixable from the in game settings and is just a bug from Microsoft.
Heres a screen shot:
As you can see, the clouds seem to look grainy and disguisting.
Vote for this post so Microsoft hopefully fix this issue in the next update!
Well, thatâs kind of a big assumptionâŠ
We have another topic on that issue with much more votes.
Please search for:
And upvote that.
Well not exactly an assumption, it could be if two people had the problem, but in the last few weeks on this forum, on reddit, on facebook, on youtube, I think I have counted at least five hundred (myself included) who have noticed the DRASTIC worsening of clouds after a patch. 200 different ways to improve the situation have been tried, but they donât work. So yes, it comes from Microsoft.
Iâve also seen that people had certain things (AA methods) enabled in nVidia settings which caused these grainy clouds.
Just a thought as it happened to me. Check your screen resolution in the Options/Graphics - I installed the new GeForce driver and it reduced the screen resolution. Iâd tried what I thought was everything, including rolling back the driver, and I was just thinking of a full re-install.
Nvidia issued new drivers yesterday. Once Iâd changed the in-game settings back all was fine again.
Lesson learned there - if anything is updated etc. go back and check all your settings!
Just finished a flight from Porto (Portugal) to Salamanca (Spain) using live weather so quite a few clouds. About 3/4 through I got a CTD (very rare for me!) so restarted in flight from the position it âcrashedâ. I noticed the clouds had become pixillated but after a few minutes they had returned to my usual good clean views. Cloud settings are on âhighâ, most others on medium which gives me a decent FPS rate, smooth action and very acceptable visuals.
Did the sim reset itself or maybe caught up with the action? Interesting.
Is there someone actually reading these forums at Asobo ? 179 posts and NOTHING IS DONE to adress this. I mean, the default planes are tr4sh, so at least let us enjoy the view.
Looks like graininess happens mainly to those fluffy thick clouds, when looked from above, and the sun is shining at them instead of from behind them⊠And maybe when seen at a distance instead of closer⊠Interesting.
Been following this thread for a while and have had zero improvements on my end. Running a 2080 super with clouds on ultra and having really bad graininess on clouds appearing identical to a lot of other simmers posting on here. Definitely a bug. Really hoping this is addressed in next weeks update because clouds were my favorite feature in MFS for the first couple of months.
It must be a âSeasonsâ issue, like everything else outside of the cockpit.
There has been a number of posts on drivers lately has everyone updated and have they used Game Ready drivers over Studio?
Had a quick look for older Nvidia drivers but it all points back to search for current. There is the roll back option within Windows but depending on how things are setup they donât go back far enough for some.
Can I suggest if you are running GeForce Experience and allowing it to update and pick MSFS 2020 settings to Uninstall It / Restart / Download your cards Game Ready Driver WHQL driver from Download The Latest Official NVIDIA Drivers Then Install without GeForce Experience running. Reset your graphics to Default in game then check the clouds and increase your settings and keep testing to see if all is well. Note Addons should all be removed before testing.
