Either this image is the result of the weather you created yourself (but not the online weather).
Or it is just mist close to the ground (you are only 1000 feet above sea level).
In short, they are not altostratus.
You understand that big bands of altostratus are really different from haze or mist or fog at ground level.
We just would like to see any type of clouds (especially the stratoform ones who are missing in the online weather).
I’m sure you know what I mean…
Yes, this is completely unrealistic. And not even very beautiful…
I don’t understand why some people refuse to admit there is something wrong that really compromises immersion.
If we currently had the hardware that could run clouds close to reality imagine what Asobo could do
There is a reason why the clouds are the way are. If it looked like this we’d complain how bad the performance is.
Let alone my gpu struggles to run the current clouds.
They can tune the current CLOUDS but we got to be patient.
I could run the clouds that the sim was released with and they looked better than those volcanic ashes we have now. I think they downgrade wrong things. In a flightsim weather is one of the most important thing, why downgrade that? Besides it’s not the graphics i want back. It’s the variety of clouds and shapes of the clouds.
No the weather is worse depicted after this update.
To clarify;
The weather depiction and choice of what to inject became bad in SU7.
The clouds themselves became bad in SU5.
The clouds on release were amazing, they were downgraded in SU5.
I don’t think there’s a way to manipulate manual weather to create this look… but since we’re discussing live weather, I thought it was pretty obvious that I’d only be posting a screenshot of live weather?
That is a stratus layer, with soft embedded cu, in live weather. I’m sorry, but it’s literal photographic proof of the thing you’re saying can’t happen. Are stratiform layers as common as they should be? Probably not. Is the updraft strength - or at least the appearance of it - greatly overdone in some cumulus? Yes, absolutely.
But then, there are times the live weather serves up absolutely perfect conditions. No one’s saying it couldn’t sometimes be better, but my point is that some folks are trying to deal in false absolutes, and are claiming the live weather system is uniformly terrible. It objectively is not; there are some things it gets right, and there are times (like my screenshot) where it gets everything right - and even matches the real-world observations, now.
I took three long flights today and did not witness any crazy cloud formations.
These are shots from today, live weather.

I have 3060 as well, but I am experiencing better clouds. I updated to latest Nvidia drivers. You may have to do some other tweaks in graphic settings.
This right here is one of the reasons I uninstalled and I’m thinking of reinstalling FSX with REX mainly for the awesome skies to fly in. These clouds look nice but there’s no variety and what turned me off is the style is baked in shader so not even 3rd party creators can give us better looking skies. I would also like to see the high sirrus clouds etc. The sky have a LOT more character than what is presented here.
Clouds for me are virtually all size and volume variations of one type of cloud (cumulus), and a significant degradation on what we had before SU5.
And we still have no humidity in live weather…
Yep the quality was reduced in SU5, and the weather system, i.e the way they are injected ruined in SU7.
It seems we are back to the pre-preview-patch clouds… ugh…
I think it all depends on the light conditions. It’s better than it was before. Also I notice a variety of clouds, which was missing before
amazing winter clouds, just awesome. what’s UE4, btw ?
