Clouds look surprisingly better with the update

Hi,

Is it just me or cloud shapes & lighting have changed with the update? They look so much better with the update - cloud lighting is more natural and cloud shapes resemble real life a lot better. As cloud lighting also affects terrain lighting, overall lighting of the scene looks so much better when there are clouds. Not only that, it looks like grain artifacts are a lot less significant too.

Thanks for the update!

Yeah. The cloud graininess has been fixed.

The lighting is probably a side effect of that, it already looked amazing but it definitely does look noticeably better for me too

I’m really happy with new clouds. I hope they keep them.

I’m sure they will, since it’s a bugfix

They look great now, nobody move a muscle. Asobo’s changes are based on movement.

can anyone post a image to confirm these changes?

What are your settings I’m on HIGH, 16X, and 4X4. My “fluffy” cloud still look odd on the edges like fuzzy.

They can’t see us we don’t move!

MSFS clouds are not rendered using textures - MSFS clouds are volumes, created using multiple layers of noise (most likely Perlin and Worley), which ray marched, so texture settings have nothing to do with cloud shapes.

About your question - cloud edges look same, main difference seems to be noise frequency.

There is some definite improvement in cloud shapes and lighting. They look more natural. I also feel that they updated their global illumination model hence the better lighting. Very impressed.

Clouds fixed!

Can someone pleeeeeease post some pics? I’m at work for the next 8 hours…

I don’t see it… Guess, it’s just me…

the magic of the clouds returned , looks amazing again, much real in fly …thx

Maybe it’s me but I don’t think those clouds look all that great. The first two look good, but the last one just looks weird to me. Maybe I need to fire up FSX, maybe I’m changing history, but this is my memory of REX Soft Clouds w/ Active Sky…

Also doesn’t help when you are flying into a giant snow system and you’ve got scattered clouds only with “LIVE WEATHER!” What a joke!

I feel my Rex Clouds in FSX look better than MSFS for now.
Especially in VR.
Alot of times the MSFS clouds look overexaggerated as if they were building demolition dust clouds depending on how the lighting hits them.

FSX uses flat textures.
MSFS uses volumetric clouds.

It’s just different tech. I’m sure the FSX textures can look great in some situations, but as soon as you actually fly through them, it looks janky.

It’s different tech, works in different ways.
