Yes I agree, in VR. In the Piper Arrow. If you put both your hands to hold the control column wheel when wearing a headset you get the impression in your brain that it is about two thirds smaller than a real one. It is very odd.
Have to vote for this, Reverb G2 user here, and everything feels way too small, sitting in a a320 for example in VR literally feels like the cockpit is that of a GA aircraft.
I thought so too until I flew in a real C172 last week. That thing is TINY!
I agree there is a problem with scale, but for me the A320 cockpit is huge. If I set up a position where I can comfortably reach the side stick the throttles are too far away. However I find the 787 to be perfect. I have a G2, 68 ipd.
funny to see some rl pilots claim its too small where others, also rl pilots, claim its right.
i wonder if settings come into play somewhere.
Cessna pilot here, all feels the right size to me, especially in VR. Don’t have the experience to comment on the larger aircraft but I get the impression they’re about right.
While the majority of us think opposite…It’s way too big.
I am in the Q2 68ipd, and 787 is enormous and its passenger windows, I can´t reach the throtles and the steering handle at the same time, that would be curious to watch an a real pilot haha, the A320 I remember it huge aswell, the Baron 58 and D-64, maybe, a little bit more big than real. Yes, correct that or make sliders to correct it.
Curious, I am in the G2 now and size of the cockpit is more normal or normal now…
I think they are absolutely life like scale, because I have sat in the cockpits of many jetliners and GA planes, and the sim’s VR mode is pretty ■■■■ realistic in scaling
Only problem I have with scale is the A320 cockpit being way too big. Like what’s up with that?
That’s funny how different people get a different feel for this
For me (A320 pilot) it feels perceptibly small/claustrophobic, the cockpit on the A320 is veery spacious I can easily stand behind the seats with a lot of headroom to spare, when I look behind me in VR it does look to me like I’d hit my head in the ceiling if I were to stand
Also the overhead panel feels super close, but that might be an effect of the reduced FOV of the headsets (RG2)
An easy fix for the cockpit feeling small is to change the ipd of the headset you use, i use a g2, the cockpit feels off if it is set wrong
Unfortunately hardware IPD in your headset isn’t affecting the software camera IPD which determines the world scale. The only sure way to correct the world scale is to have a proper software camera IPD setting - be it automatic linked to the hardware IPD your headset is reporting to the windows or manual.
This is indeed the first step to eliminate the problem I agree. I’m specifically illustrating this in this topic where you can check how this works with cross-eyes pictures among other things.
Unfortunately there remains a problem somewhere between FS2020 and the VR driver for the headset here. In effect, the “Camera” IPD is supposed to be automatically handled indirectly by the game which is using the projection matrices the OXR API is giving.
VR compositor/driver differences in their handling of the projection matrices for the hardware they are driving might also explain why some people are not seeing the same objects at the same size otherwise. IIRC it is changing but since I don’t remember which does what, I don’t want to write false information, and I’ll have to specifically test Index and G2 on SteamVR then Index and G2 on SteamVR and WMR to see what is changing exactly (but it does for sure changes).
MODERATOR EDIT:
Different people see different scale so the best would be a sliding rule to increase or decrease the scale of the world this already has aerofly afs2 and is very good
Diferentes personas ven distinta escala por eso lo mejor seria una regla deslizante para aumentar o disminur la escala del mundo esto ya lo tiene aerofly afs2 y esta muy bueno
I’m not exactly sure what you mean, not hardware savvy, but in the g2 if you put the ipd all the way to the left or right in will shrink the screen so to speak and make the cockpit feel smaller, when its set correctly the cockpit feels normal, I’m not saying it’s correct but an incorrectly set ipd could make the cockpit feel small
I imported the 172 into blender and it is 0.954 scale on xyz.
The panel width is smaller by a few inches for sure.
That’s odd, considering they laser scanned all their aircraft.
It may have been mentioned before but a couple of other combat flight sims have an IPD adjustment built into the game one can assign to buttons on HOTAS which adjusts the scale of the airplane.
